One of the biggest misconceptions about health insurance?
People think the insurance company is there to help them.
They're not.
Insurance companies are businesses. Their job is to manage risk and pay claims in accordance with the terms of your policy. Sometimes that means approvals. Sometimes that means denials.
But here's what most people don't realize:
A denial is not always the final answer.
You can appeal.
You can ask questions.
You can request reviews.
You can challenge decisions that don't seem right.
I've seen patients walk away from needed care because they assumed "denied" meant "done."
It doesn't.
One of the most powerful patient advocacy skills you can learn is how to read a denial, understand your coverage, and advocate for yourself when the answer is no.
Don't assume the first answer is the only answer.
