We tend to think hunger comes from an empty stomach. That’s not quite right.

When researchers first studied GLP-1 medications in people with diabetes, they had to check whether the drugs increased the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Past weight-loss drugs had.

For comparison: statins, the standard heart-protection medication, reduce that risk by around 29%.

The strange and exciting part is that these heart benefits seem to show up independent of weight loss.
