Buenos días, from beautiful sunny Mexico! ☀️
Grab a cup of tea and break for a few moments to connect with me.
I've been quiet on this page for a while now — partly because the Facebook algorithm gods are merciless with business pages (if you don't have one, trust me, you're not missing anything) — but mostly because life has been an utter whirlwind.
Here's the update: Felix and I moved to Mexico, and it has been a swirling, magical privilege, a gift that we do not take lightly. He’s less anxious here in his homeland. 🙂
I know this sounds surprising coming from me — many of you know my relationship with the sun and heat. I never had a particular affinity for Mexico. Between the version America portrays on the news — the violence, the heat, the "third-world" narrative — none of it held any appeal. And let's be honest about where a lot of that narrative comes from: an administration that has spent years demonizing Mexico and its people to serve its own cruel agenda. It wasn't until friends of mine made the move and shared their story with me that something shifted.
I started looking closer, and that's where my love story with San Miguel began. I made my first long visit in February, flew back to Pittsburgh, packed, and moved. OMG, there is much more to that part of the story, but I'll share the hard chunky bits later.
San Miguel de Allende sits in Mexico's central highlands — 6,000 feet of elevation, just three and a half hours from Mexico City. It's a city of colonial architecture, cobbled streets, and colorful dwellings around every corner. The crown jewel is the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, a neo-Gothic church rising over the main square, El Jardín. Fantastical doesn't begin to describe my new home. The weather has been said to be the very best in the entire world and I concur. It’s perfect most all year long.
What I found here is nothing like the headlines. Mexico is not the crime-ridden sh****le it gets portrayed as in the U.S. news, courtesy of an administration I have zero respect for, by the way. For example, there has never been a school shooting here, more in future blogs on the safety-factor. What Mexico actually is: a lifestyle I've desired for decades — healthy, community-oriented, with genuinely happy, artistic, well-rounded, well-traveled folks from all over the globe. Healthcare much more kind and affordable than one can imagine.
The architecture in this peaceful little town is just the gorgeous backdrop, although, what actually sold me on this place is the life we get to actually live in it. Mornings start slow here — coffee and a stretch in the morning sun, a walk with Felix through cobblestone streets that somehow never get old, a surprise awaiting through every doorway, tiny and dingy or huge and grand.
The food scene is unreal: tiny family-run fondas next door to world-class restaurants, mercados overflowing with fruit I'd never even heard of, fresh tortillas made in front of you, mezcal flights on rooftop terraces at sunset. And the people — genuinely warm, unhurried, welcoming in a way that caught me off guard. There's a real community here, a huge mix of locals and expats and everyone in between, all of it woven together by art walks, farmers markets, and live music spilling out of the plazas most nights of the week. It's the kind of place where you strike up a conversation in line for coffee and leave with a dinner invitation.
I'll say this plainly, because I think it matters: HealthyBohemian is built on integrity, health, wellness, lots of humor, and oodles of happiness — for everyone, full stop. Nobody is illegal. Everyone deserves affordable healthcare and education. If that's not your thing, I think you’re a dick but that’s okay, this probably isn't the brand for you. I'm perfectly fine with that.
"Bless and release" is a phrase I use on the regular nowadays. I'm not everyone's cup of tea, and I can finally accept that with my whole entire self. For years I tried to please all sorts of friends, family, clients. Menopause has been the true gift - also, an absolute mind-f*ck to go through for twelve years, yes, twelve solid years, OY, but it literally culled all of my f***s to give. It no longer concerns me to make every single person I share a single breath with happy — and holy sh*tballs does that feel TERRIFIC!!! So, bless and release, all you naysayers and curmudgeons. We have magic to create here in SMA!!
This is my sixth city in ten years. 🤯 "Exhausted" doesn't begin to describe my body and brain — but I've never felt more like I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be.
More soon on what this means for HealthyBohemian and the work we'll be doing together. If you’re new here, BIG welcome! Please share the bits you like and follow me on the socials
Much light and love, amie & felix
