Meet Kylie Navarro, one of the newest members of the Watershed Initiative counseling team

Kylie Navarro is passionate about working with children, adolescents, and young adults to address negative thought patterns and behaviors associated with anxiety, depression, and relationship conflict. Kylie meets kids, individuals, and couples where they are, helping them navigate emotions, relate to others, and reduce negative behaviors. Kylie is also a certified Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts (SYMBIS) facilitator, where she helps couples understand each other’s feelings, communication styles, and personalities.

In her approach to therapy, Kylie integrates several evidence-based techniques to help her clients. She enjoys using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, Play Therapy to understand children’s feelings and promote positive interactions, and mindfulness techniques to foster emotional regulation. She also enjoys integrating faith into sessions when requested by the client. Focusing on each individual’s personal needs, Kylie desires to help clients feel heard, seen, and empowered to grow wherever they are.

Outside of the therapy room, Kylie enjoys traveling to new places both in and outside the US. She also enjoys reading, Pilates, and spending time with her husband and dog. Her faith is also important to her, and she has served in children ministry settings for 8+ years, teaching and interacting with children ages 2-12. Kylie enjoys combining aspects of faith into counseling sessions, allowing clients to express themselves and their beliefs without judgment. In every area of her life, she enjoys combining health, wellness, and faith, continuing to expand her understanding of the connection between mind, body, and soul.

Stories like this demonstrate the church at its best.
Following the way of Jesus in concrete and unexpected ways.

And that’s precisely why when the church fails or hurts us, there’s a major whiplash.

This month, we’re talking about how why church hurt hurts so much and how to heal when you’e been wounded by the church.

Yes, this really happened at my baptism. The kid that was baptized after me barfed into the pool. It was nasty but the day was still memorable and sacred.

Church is beautiful and messy. Sometimes really messy.

This month, we’re talking about how why church hurt hurts so much and how to heal when you’e been wounded by the church.

If you’ve ever been hurt by the church, you know the pain is disorienting, deeply personal, and can leave you feeling spiritually orphaned.

In this episode of The Work Within, host John Lin sits down with licensed Christian therapists Dieula Previlon, LPC-S, and Paul McMullen, LPC, to grapple with the dual reality of the church - a community that can save your life in one season and wound you in the next.

People were afraid of bombs, so CS Lewis wrote this:
“If we are going to be destroyed by an atomic bomb, let that bomb, when it comes, find us doing sensible and human things -- praying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, playing tennis, chatting to our friends over a pint and a game of darts -- not huddled together like frightened sheep and thinking about bombs.” (On Living in an Atomic Age)

We think this is timely perspective in this age of AI.
This month, we’re talking about how AI is shaping mental health.

If you’re using AI for therapy, link it to a professional.
Talk to your therapist about it.
If you don’t have one, work with one.
You want to make sure you have a human in the loop that’s not just you.
This month, we’re talking about how AI is shaping mental health.
