My Story
When I hit 40, I felt tired, no longer motivated, and as a “health coach”, like a huge hypocrite. I would not/could not follow an eating plan (a.k.a. diet) to save my life. I always said, “I know what to do to lose weight, I just need to do it. I can work out all day. My diet is the problem (Does this sound familiar?). I was managing but I wouldn’t say I was really living. Well then in September 2014, things got very very real. My younger sister became gravely ill and passed away suddenly. Then less than 2 years later, my mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 Endometrial Cancer. About 6 months after that, my husband had several acute attacks of pancreatitis. With 2 kids and 2 dogs and my support system needing all of my support, I felt I was failing miserably at life. I just had to get through this and then figure out what’s wrong with me. During all of these stressful life events, I stuffed my feelings and my stress into my mouth along with ice cream, fast foods, cookies, cakes, whatever “comfort” I could find until I was so uncomfortable that all I could do was sleep. But I didn’t have time to sleep. Eating soothed me for 5-10 minutes and that was enough to keep a slow burn of adrenaline going through these months and years of going along on these rides with my family members' health scares. The poor way I treated my own health at this time was an epic fail but also a learning opportunity. One that is so important to share. My family and myself have come out the other side for the better and so can you. Because of my curiosity and education, I have the knowledge of nutritional therapy under my belt, but I also have the personal experience of being sugar addicted, imbalanced hormones, sleep-deprived and turning to food and Netflix to comfort all of my daily stressors. I’m not a skinny diet nutritionist. I’ve been in the trenches with you struggling, getting back up and failing again and again. I have this secret about how food can make you feel and look amazing and I can’t wait to share it with you and help you out of this hole you’ve found yourself in.

"One of the biggest shifts in the way I think about health is this:

**Symptoms are clues, not conclusions.**

Fatigue doesn't automatically tell us why we're tired.

Cravings don't automatically mean a lack of willpower.

Digestive symptoms don't automatically tell us which part of digestion needs support.

And feeling different in your 40s or 50s doesn't automatically mean you should shrug and accept feeling lousy.

Symptoms give us information.

Then we get curious.

What else is happening?
What changed—and when?
What does the health history tell us?
How are nutrition, digestion, blood sugar, sleep, movement and stress looking?
What other information do we have?

I don't want to begin with the answer.

**I want to investigate before we decide what deserves support.** 🌿"

What makes you feel ALIVE?

It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day have-tos. Work, laundry, errands, dinner. Check the boxes, go to bed, repeat. Somewhere in there, we need room for the things that make us excited to be here.

For me, it’s music loud enough to dance to. Learning something new. Being outside. Traveling somewhere I’ve never been. Creating something. A conversation that goes beyond “How have you been?” Laughing with people I love until we forget what was so funny in the first place.

Eating well and moving our bodies matter. But being healthy is also about having the energy and freedom to actually LIVE. To experience things, love people, be curious, and share our lives with others.

I see so much isolation, especially since 2020, and it makes me sad. I love my alone time, but I also know how much I need connection. People to laugh with, make memories with, and do life with.

I want a life that feels rich in those things. More joy, more connection, more “I’m so glad we did that.”

So here’s a little encouragement for you—and for me: put something on the calendar simply because you’re looking forward to it. Call the friend. Turn up the music. Make time for the people and experiences that remind you how good life can feel.

Get out there and live a life you love, with people you love. ❤️

What’s something that makes YOU feel alive?

Saturday fun:

I used this prompt in ChatGPT: Create 4 versions of me: who I think I am, who strangers think I am, who the people closest to me probably see and the real me hidden inside no one knows about

p.s. I wish my hair was this long and full!

If you're new here—or we've known each other forever and you're wondering what I'm doing these days—hi, I'm Lisa. 🌿

A few things the pictures probably explain better than a bio ever could:

I've been married to Mike for 32 years, and traveling and exploring together are still some of my favorite things.

I'm mom to two grown sons, Zach and Josh, and I'm very lucky to have my dear DIL Jessica and (Josh's lovely girlfriend) Gloria in our family too.

Charlie and Ollie run the household. Obviously. 🐾

I'm endlessly curious, which is how I end up making things like tinctures, sourdough, sprouting grains, making sauerkraut, and whatever other experiment sounds interesting that week.

I'm also a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, and I'm fascinated by how connected our health really is—nutrition, digestion, blood sugar, sleep, stress, behavior, lifestyle and all the patterns that can show up when we start looking at the bigger picture.

I was certified in Turbo Kick in 2013, never taught a class, and still have an embarrassing number of Turbo Jam/Turbo Kick DVDs because apparently I believe physical media should survive forever. 😂 I've had some workout nostalgia lately and have been dusting these babies off!

I'm also a published author. I created Nourishing Mind-Body Balance: Your Daily Journaling Companion along with several workbooks for my Mindful Slimming Journey.

And these days I'm putting more energy into Your Renewable Life, my passion project and the work I'd love to grow into a much bigger part of my life.

At the heart of all of it, I love learning, creating, traveling, meaningful conversations, deep friendships, good coffee, dogs, music, movement and figuring out what makes life feel more alive.

So that's a little about me.

Now tell me something about YOU that I probably wouldn't know from your social media. ❤️

We naturally want to make an uncomfortable symptom disappear, but sometimes it's worth getting curious about what may be contributing.

What if we got curious before we got restrictive?

For example, instead of reaching for an NSAID for a headache, ask why you might have a headache. Do you have coffee everyday but today you skipped it? Is it a tension headache? Were you snoring last night? Allergies or stuffy sinuses? Are you stressed to the nth degree? Each of these reasons has a simple holistic solution.

When something feels off with our health, we naturally want to know: What do I need to do to fix it?

But I think there’s an important question that comes first:

What’s going on underneath it?

A craving may not simply be a lack of willpower.
Fatigue may not just mean you need more coffee.
Digestive symptoms aren’t always only about the last thing you ate.
And feeling “off” doesn’t automatically mean you should shrug and accept it as getting older.

Our bodies are complex, and our health doesn’t happen in isolation.

Nutrition matters. Digestion matters. Blood sugar matters. Sleep and movement matter. Stress and nervous-system patterns matter. And what’s happening in your actual life matters, too.

Sometimes one factor stands out. More often, there are several pieces of the puzzle influencing one another.

That’s why I’m much more interested in understanding the roots—plural—than chasing one symptom at a time.

For me, that’s where meaningful change begins:

Not with another list of rules.

With curiosity.

What’s going on?
What might be contributing?
What haven’t we explored yet?

Because discovery gives us something much more useful than a generic plan.

It gives us a place to begin. 🌿

Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is another common autoimmune condition. Save this guide and learn more about this condition. If you connect to these symptoms, you should have a FULL thyroid panel done, including antibodies. Normal thyroid checks only check TSH and maybe 2 other numbers. If you are suffering, ask your health care provider for the full assessment.

The symptoms line up with many health issues, but where autoimmune is concerned, it is helpful to have that diagnosis to arm yourself with the knowledge to begin your healing journey.

Celiac disease is one of the most common autoimmune diseases. But you don't have to have Celiac to not be intolerant to gluten. Check out and save this guide to understand Celiac and gluten intolerance.
