Back in February, a Flower Mound toddler unbuckled his stroller, slipped away while his dad was unloading groceries, and plunged headfirst into the swimming pool.

And drowned.

But he’s alive and here today because a passing stranger heard the commotion, stopped, and immediately started CPR.

Two weeks later, that dad sat in one of my classes to learn how to do the exact same thing.

🇺🇸 Remembering My Dad & Uncle 🇺🇸
In my family tree, stepping up to serve isn't just something talked about—it’s baked into our DNA (definitely got my ear pulled a lot as a kid, lol--"Yes Sir!").

👉 Pic 1: My dad, Garry Joe Anderson, looking sharp as a lil' toy soldier, preparing early!
👉 Pic 2: My dad grown up as an ARO for 12 years during Vietnam era, proudly stationed right down the road in Grand Prairie.

👉 Pic 3: Sadly, I never had the honor to meet my Uncle Larry (who everyone says I look just like). Elite of the elite, a Green Beret, serving 3 tours in Vietnam.

Growing up surrounded by commitment—from a machine gunner grandfather in WWII, to an Army Reserve Officer dad, to a Special Forces uncle—teaches you accountability, grit, and showin' up for others when it matters most.

I strive to honor them by pouring that same relentless focus into teaching students in our community how to stand ready to save lives right here at home. The battlefield looks different... but the heart behind it never changes. 🛠️❤️

To my dad, my uncle, and my grandpa who have all worn the uniform: thank you for the blueprint on what it means to serve.

🇺🇸 HEROES IN THE FAMILY: Honoring My Grandfather’s Legacy 🇺🇸
This weekend, doing some diggin' & found my grandfather’s official World War II Honoree page on the National WWII Memorial registry. Seeing his name in print always brings back a wave of immense pride.

Meet Benjamin Clarence Anderson of Osage, Oklahoma.

During WWII, he served on the front lines as a machine gunner with the 537th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion (Battery A). He fought through some of the most historic and harrowing chapters of the war, including the Normandy Invasion of D-Day + 1 Landing at Utah Beach on June 7th 1944, and later the Ardennes Campaign (Battle of the Bulge). And the liberation of the Flossenbürg concentration camp.

Growing up around that kind of grit, dedication, and service leaves a mark on you. He answered the call to protect others on a global scale, and that exact same spirit is what drives me every single day.

While my battlefield looks a lot different today—teaching citizens, workplaces, and local communities how to step up in a medical emergency—the core mission is exactly the same: Protecting life, stepping forward when others hesitate, and serving our community.

My grandpa wasn't just a witness to history; his specific battery provided the protective umbrella of firepower that allowed the Allies to fight their way from the blood-stained sands of Utah Beach all the way to liberating the oppressed in the heart of Germany.

Every time I lace up my boots to teach a CPR, First Aid, or emergency response class, I carry a piece of his legacy with me.
