Staying healthy doesn’t have to be complicated—or boring. Think of it as a daily “health points” game you can win, one small choice at a time.
Here are some fun ways to boost your health today:
• Turn chores into movement: put on your favorite song and power-walk while you clean or cook.
• Make your plate colorful: aim for at least three different colors of fruits and veggies at meals.
• Do a “screen break challenge”: every hour, stand up, stretch, and take 10 deep breaths.
• Swap one thing: trade one sugary drink or snack today for water, fruit, or nuts.
• Protect your sleep: treat your bedtime like an important appointment you don’t cancel.
Your future self will thank you for every small step you take—so pick one thing from this list and start today.

July is UV Safety Month, and it’s a good time to check how well you’re protecting your skin and eyes from the sun. Too much ultraviolet (UV) exposure can increase the risk of skin cancer, premature aging, eye damage, and weakened immunity over time.
Simple steps make a big difference: use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher), reapply every 2 hours when outdoors, wear hats and UV-blocking sunglasses, seek shade between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and avoid tanning beds. Don’t forget that UV rays can reach you on cloudy days and through windows.
At Family Medicine Associates of Texas, our physicians can help you understand your skin cancer risk, review any changing moles or spots, and discuss personalized sun safety strategies for you and your family. If you notice a new or changing lesion on your skin, schedule an appointment to have it checked.

Men’s Health Week is a great reminder that prevention matters.
This June, we’re encouraging men of all ages to take charge of their health—by keeping up with annual checkups, knowing their blood pressure and cholesterol numbers, and talking openly about concerns like sleep, mood, weight, and energy.
Healthy habits such as regular physical activity, not smoking, moderating alcohol, and choosing heart-healthy foods can lower the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers over time.
At Family Medicine Associates of Texas, our physicians partner with men through every stage of life to support stronger hearts, healthier bodies, and better quality of life. If it’s been more than a year since your last visit, Men’s Health Week is the perfect time to schedule an appointment.

🚭 To***co use is a leading cause of heart disease, stroke, lung disease, and several cancers—but quitting can start improving your health almost immediately.
If you smoke or use other to***co products, consider today your invitation to take the first step: talk with your healthcare team, set a quit date, and explore tools like ni****ne replacement, counseling, and support programs. Even small changes—cutting back, avoiding triggers, or asking a friend to keep you accountable—can move you in the right direction.
Our team at Family Medicine Associates of Texas is here to support you with personalized quit plans, medication options, and ongoing follow-up. Your lungs, heart, and future self will thank you.

Stress doesn’t stop at retirement.

Many retirees experience stress from changes in routine, health concerns, finances, or feeling less connected to others. This stress can affect sleep, mood, heart health, and overall quality of life.
The good news: small steps help. Staying socially engaged, moving your body regularly, eating well, and practicing simple relaxation techniques (like deep breathing or gentle stretching) can lower stress and support healthy aging.

At Family Medicine Associates of Texas, our physicians partner with you through every stage of life. If stress is affecting your days—or your nights—talk with us about personalized ways to protect both your mental and physical health.
