EVEN WHEN WE KNOW BETTER—
I fell for a scam recently. Me. Someone who knows about scams.
I was on the phone with someone I love and decided to check my email at the same time. In that one distracted moment I made an error in judgment I never would have made if I had just been present.
It came in as an invitation from a friend I hadn't talked to in ages. And in a distracted moment it looked completely real. This is exactly why in this day and age we have to slow down and ask questions. Check email headers. And if something comes in from a friend out of the blue, verify with them directly through another channel before you open anything. Even a little click can cause a lot of damage.
If you don't already follow Jeff Rossen, Rossen Reports, look him up. He's been covering scams and consumer safety for years, formerly on NBC and now independently across social media. Really valuable resource.
Multitasking doesn't just make us less productive. It makes us vulnerable.
My husband reassured me I'm okay and I changed my password immediately. But the lesson landed hard. And then I had a choice. Beat myself up or extend myself some grace.
I'm choosing grace.
Two things I genuinely recommend. Look into a credit monitoring service if you don't have one. And when something requires your full attention, give it that.
I've been reaching for Fierce Compassion from LotusWei through this one. It magnifies kind thoughts instead of critical ones and that gentle honesty with yourself. It's been exactly the right companion.

Has this happened to you? My DMs are open. No judgment here at all.
May we extend to ourselves the same grace we would offer a dear friend. May we be gentle with ourselves when we are simply human.
As always, wishing you much love, peace & petals 💋
