Tribe Wellness

Tribe Wellness Tribe Wellness LLC is a community that fights back against neurological symptoms with approaches in research-based exercise!

Much has been said of the value of exercise and its role in developing or maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Various medical professionals, researchers, and clinicians from a variety of disciplines agree that exercise is medicine. While an abundance of scientific research validates the importance of exercise for the prevention of many conditions, to slow the progression of many pathologies, and to t

reat impairments associated with a variety of acute and chronic conditions, too few wellness professionals have the skills and training required to make an effective difference in the lives of others. While many physical therapists have the training, knowledge, and skills to effectively provide exercise prescriptions as therapy for many conditions, the current state of the healthcare system leaves far too many people underserved or completely out of a model which allows them access to use of exercise as medicine. Tribe Wellness Gym represents a unique opportunity to better serve the needs of these many individuals through access to group exercise programs aimed at specific impairments. Our goal is to change peoples’ lives through movement. We do this by:
• Expertly designing and implementing programs that take a targeted approach at specific impairments associated with chronic conditions based on current leading evidence-based methods
• Allowing individuals an avenue to continue to build on momentum built in physical therapy or to begin to fight back against impairments associated with their condition.
• Taking advantage of ideas of neuroplasticity – more sessions and more repetitions lead to more progress!
• Providing structured group approach, challenging each individual to work harder and perform better than they could on their own
• Creating a community which allows camaraderie in the hope of minimizing non-motor symptoms such as depression – we are all stronger together! Fitness activities should not end with discharge from physical therapy. Wellness is more than just personal training. Our business empowers individuals to fight back against their condition, taking advantage of strength in numbers. We lead clients to a tribe which uses group programs to make real, lasting, lifestyle changes. Legally we operate under Tribe Wellness, LLC. The chosen slogan “Strength in Numbers” complements the business name, reminding clients that groups are stronger than individuals. It notes that no one needs to suffer alone and that with others, we are more likely to consistently perform, motivate each other, and to support each other. Also, the reference to numbers emphasizes our scientific and evidence-based approach to program design and implementation, offering a significant advantage over joining groups which may lack the expert guidance our programs rely upon. Tribe Wellness Gym is place for clients address impairments, develop their strengths, and move further down the path to wellness together.

Last month, I had the privilege of presenting at the annual symposium for the Hawai'i Parkinson Association, and I was blown away by how well-run this event was!

Staffed almost entirely by volunteer efforts, this symposium had the professional and polished feeling of a Davis Phinney Foundation

Most of all, I loved the crowd and the feeling of elaning into my purpose in sharing lessons learned from a decade of intense work in the Parkinson's community through leading exercise classes, performing research studies, designing community engagement strategies, creating carepartner programs, and trying my level best to make a difference for people who have become family to me.

Please feel free to share this recording with anyone who may need some insight or research-backed practical tips.

World Tai Chi & Qigong Day 2026 was another great one! This was our 12th year hosting this global event for Dallas, Texas and did not disappoint! Master Wuzhong Jia from Hebei Chinese Martial Arts Institute inspired everyone to move, to breathe, and to celebrate the internal arts! Congrats, Dr. Michael Okun!

A major milestone this Parkinson's Awareness Month!

The National Plan to End Parkinson’s Act, signed into law in July 2024, calls for a coordinated national strategy to prevent, diagnose, treat, and ultimately cure Parkinson’s disease, as well as ameliorate symptoms and slow or stop disease progression. The plan also includes related Parkinsonisms such as multiple system atrophy (MSA), progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), corticobasal degeneration (CBD), and Parkinson’s-related dementia.

To help guide this effort, the National Advisory Council on Parkinson’s Research, Care, and Services brings together people living with Parkinson’s, caregivers, health care providers, researchers, advocacy organizations, and federal agency representatives. The council will help shape the development of the National Plan through expert and lived experience input across research, care, and services.

We are proud to recognize the non-federal members of this Advisory Council, including Dr. Michael Okun and fellow leaders across neurology, research, caregiving, and advocacy, who are helping move this initiative forward.
