Dr. Abbey recently participated in a three-part special report video series by Ophthalmology Times that examined the evolving treatment landscape for geographic atrophy (GA), a late stage of dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

In it, he discusses the latest information on the two FDA-approved complement inhibitor therapies that can slow GA lesion progression: pegcetacoplan (Syfovre) and avacincaptad pegol (Izervay).

May is Ocular Melanoma Awareness Month. Ocular (uveal) melanoma is a rare but serious form of eye cancer, and only a small number of specialists in the United States treat it. At Texas Retina, we have cared for patients with ocular melanoma for more than 40 years.

A Texas native and the son of retired Texas Retina physician Dr. Dwain Fuller, Dr. Timothy Fuller joined Texas Retina Associates in 2016 after completing advanced ocular oncology training at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia under internationally renowned eye cancer specialists Jerry A. Shields, MD, and Carol Shields, MD.

Dr. Ashkan Abbey, who serves as Texas Retina’s Director of Clinical Research for Dallas, recently presented at the Retina World Congress 2026 meeting. He discussed the evolving clinical trial landscape for sustained drug delivery in retinal diseases like wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME) with a focus on EYP-1901 (vorolanib intravitreal insert). The goal of sustained-release therapies like EYP-1901 is to reduce the treatment burden for patients while maintaining strong visual and anatomic outcomes.

At Texas Retina, we have been caring for ocular melanoma patients for over 40 years and are fortunate to have two physicians who sub-specialize in treating this eye cancer: Dr. Timothy Fuller and Dr. Rajiv Anand.
