We’re proud to share that the Texas Retina Dallas research team has been recognized as the highest-enrolling site globally for Part I of the DFI18231 study evaluating SAR446597 for geographic atrophy secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Part II of the study opened in August, and both Texas Retina’s Dallas and Fort Worth research teams are participating.

The COED study was a prospective, randomized, comparative trial conducted exclusively at Texas Retina. It compared two treatment regimens for diabetic macular edema (DME): a combination of an intravitreal dexamethasone implant (Ozurdex) and aflibercept (Eylea) versus aflibercept alone. The results were published in the medical journal Retina. Dr. Rajiv Anand, Dr. Deborah Chong, Dr. Lori Coors, Dr. Timothy Fuller, Dr. Andrew McClellan, Dr. Wayne Solley, Dr. Robert Wang, Dr. Patrick Williams and Dr. Ashkan Abbey co-authored the article.

Today we are sharing the inspiring story of Reef, a young patient of Dr. Wang.

Before Reef was even a year old, his mom started noticing something wasn’t right with his eyes. She reached out to physicians across the country, but because of his young age, she struggled to find someone willing to see him.

When she contacted Dr. Wang, he didn’t hesitate. He welcomed Reef as a patient and developed a personalized treatment plan to help improve his vision.

Today, Reef can enjoy the everyday activities of childhood, which has meant so much to him and his family.

Dr. Abbey and Texas Retina’s Dallas clinical research team were recently recognized for their contributions to advancing clinical research in genetic medicine through the 4FRONT-2 clinical trial for wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

This Phase 3 study is evaluating 4D-150, an investigational gene therapy designed as a single, low-dose intravitreal injection with the potential to provide sustained disease control and reduce the need for frequent repeat injections.

Texas Retina’s Dr. Michel J. Shami recently provided the national DRCR Retina Network with updates on three important clinical trials focused on diabetic retinopathy, epiretinal membranes, and radiation retinopathy.

As one of the network’s original investigators, Dr. Shami has enrolled 126 participants across 29 DRCR protocols and continues to contribute to research aimed at improving diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes for patients with retinal disease.
