EBM Fitness Solutions EBM Fitness Solutions now brings elite Rehab Fitness to the workplace. Invest in a pain-free culture. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

We don't wait for your employees to get injured—we provide the clinical expertise to ensure they never have to. I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified Sports Nutritionist from the International Society of Sports Nutrition (CISSN). All of that basically makes this a one-stop shop for all th

e things you will need to improve fitness, rehab injuries, and improve nutrition. My background and experience make me well-adept at working with any individual who wants to achieve improved fitness and function while minimizing the risk of injury while doing so. I know when to work around injuries and when to work them to help improve them. I have worked with many individuals who were able to achieve weight-loss goals while decreasing their pain level and returning to a level of function they once thought lost. My philosophy focuses on teaching people how to move better. Once we learn to do that, we are then free to work as hard as we need/want to so we can obtain your goal(s). Part of this involves starting with the basics and teaching people how to feel the proper muscles working and to minimize any compensatory movement patterns that have developed. Achieving any goal is about getting the right mindset, being accountable and being consistent with the actions it takes to achieve whatever the goal might be. There are many ways that we will discuss doing this to allow you to reach your goals, enjoy the process and be able to make the changes part of a new way of doing things going forward. EBM Fitness Solutions looks to build an environment with a sense of family, community, and support for one another. Ultimately, we are all working towards similar goals. We just start out at different points with a different backstory.

Thoracic spine tightness, or hypomobility, is something that plagues most people I meet and almost none of them have any idea it is a problem.

That is because when the thoracic spine is tight, you can have:
neck pain and decreased neck range of motion (ROM)
shoulder pain and decreased shoulder ROM
difficulty sleeping
headaches (these tend to be more on one side of the head)
difficulty sitting up straight

Just because something hurts doesn't mean you shouldn't exercise. If you have proper strategies, you can continue to exercise and allow for the pain/injury to get better.

The key is to do things differently and to modify activities when you have to.

Start by looking at things as 'need to' versus 'want to'. Initially, we minimize the want to and modify the need to.

Part of getting better is removing the irritating factor. Not like a wife irritating factor ;), but the movement(s) that are actually increasing your pain.

Sometimes, the speed at which you are performing the movement is the issue and not the actual movement. Try slowing down to see if that helps your pain.

Lunges are one of the best lower body exercises you can perform.

A lot of people complain about knee pain when doing different kinds of lunges.

In most cases, the issue is technique driven and has little to do with the knees. Feeling pain in the front knee or the back can also shed light on what the underlying issue may be.

The good news is that with some technique adjustment, people can often lunge without pain.

Are you washing your brain each night?

The paradox of sleep. We are thought to be still and without movement yet our brain is on fire with activity. It is putting in the work while we are fast asleep.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is a watery liquid that continually circulates through the brain's ventricles (hollow cavities) and around the surface of the brain and spinal cord. CSF washes out impurities from the brain, transfers nutrients and provides protective cushioning to the brain and spinal cord.

Generally speaking, your knees should not hurt when you perform a squat.

Often, the knees are the symptom, not the problem.

Ankle mobility issues and weak hips/glutes can contribute to knee pain.

How you set up your feet (wide, narrow, toes out) can also contribute.

Once you identify any movement impairments and find the right setup for you, squats usually start feeling better.

Time, or lack of time, is a reason why most people stop working out or never start in the first place.

I'm here to let you know that exercise can fit into any chunk of time you have available and that doing something is better than doing nothing.

Using EBM's Time-Constraint Workouts (TCWs) will help you get in, get out, and get on with the rest of your day.

The Odyssey Program.

Starting a fitness program can be a daunting task. How do you know what you are doing is the best thing for you to be doing?

If you are just starting out, you should follow a program that is designed for beginners.

The overall volume is not as high and progressions are more gradual to give your body a chance to adjust and adapt.

This also helps to ensure you can stick with the program. When program variables are all over the place in the beginning, it is often more confusing.

Too much muscle confusion leads to client confusion and a feeling that exercise just isn’t going to work.

When starting a program, fewer variables will help you focus on getting better at the prescribed movements. Randomly changing things just to change things doesn’t help you progress faster.
