Our first Summer Camp at Rockcastle Regional Hospital kicked off today with 6 enthusiastic campers ready to explore healthcare careers!

Throughout the day, students learned about a variety of career paths, including dentistry, behavioral health, and nursing. We started with team-building activities before diving into hands-on dental experiences, where students practiced placing fillings and making dental impressions.

The day concluded with an introduction to basic nursing skills and a patient care scenario using our pediatric simulation model.

We’re excited to continue learning, exploring healthcare careers, and having fun together. We can’t wait for Day 2 tomorrow!

Jake is at Danville Independent High School today in Mrs. Kissee’s class doing a follow up blood typing activity. In the winter, students learned about the different blood types while typing synthetic blood & lab careers. Today, students are getting to type their own blood to figure out what blood type they are. We even had a special guest in the building join our 1st period class. Thanks for having us this school year!

These 15 students from Knox, Whitley, & Laurel County’s were celebrated with family at the Corbin Center. We appreciate the support of Baptist Corbin and our community partners. Southern KY AHEC celebrated the first Next Nurse Graduation Banquet with 5 talented students from Knox County Schools completing our 6-month nursing pipeline program. These students attended 12 sessions, learning basic nursing skills, gaining job shadowing hours, exploring nursing programs in Kentucky, and participating in a soft skills workshop with Jake. We appreciate Laney, Olivia, Jayden, Chyann, and Abby's dedication. We also want to thank our partners at ARH Barbourville, Union Commonwealth University Nursing, and Knox County Public Schools for their support. Community involvement is crucial for our students' success, and we're grateful for partners who help us launch our students futures!
