🏈 A FORMER CHICAGO BEARS QUARTERBACK IS ALIVE TODAY BECAUSE OF CPR AND AN AED! ❤️

On September 17, 2025, former Chicago Bears quarterback Connor Shaw was doing something thousands of parents do every week — coaching his son's youth football team.

Suddenly, at just 33 years old, Shaw collapsed from sudden cardiac arrest.

Fortunately, two off-duty first responders were nearby. They immediately began CPR and continued until an AED arrived. Shaw received lifesaving defibrillation and survived.

Think about that for a moment. A young, athletic father coaching his son's football team suddenly needed CPR to save his life.

Today, Connor has turned his experience into a mission. Through his nonprofit organization, HRTHUDL (Heart Huddle), he is working to increase CPR education and make AEDs more accessible throughout communities.

❤️ At Northern Illinois CPR and First Aid, this story hits especially close to home. Through our own AED Donation Program, we've donated 14 AEDs to organizations in our communities.

October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month, and Connor's story is a powerful reminder:

✅ Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone.

✅ Immediate CPR can help keep someone alive.

✅ An AED can mean the difference between life and death.

You don't have to be a medical professional to save a life. You just have to be prepared to act.

We were proud to make a very special delivery today! ❤️🐴

Northern Illinois CPR and First Aid has officially donated our 14th AED through our AED Donation Program to the BraveHearts Therapeutic Riding & Educational Center!

BraveHearts does incredible work for our veterans and first responders through equine-assisted services, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to help make their facilities a little safer for their participants, families, staff, volunteers, and visitors.

And we had the perfect guest for the presentation — Tugg! Take a close look at his forehead and you’ll see his very own heart-shaped marking. ❤️ We couldn’t have asked for a better horse to help us celebrate an AED donation!

Every AED we donate represents another location that is better prepared to respond if sudden cardiac arrest happens. We’re incredibly proud that this marks AED #14 donated through our program, and we look forward to continuing to place lifesaving equipment throughout the communities we serve.

Today, Northern Illinois CPR and First Aid was proud to place our 11th donated AED back into the community, this time with United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rockford.

With AEDs costing around $2,000 each, we know how difficult it can be for churches, nonprofits, and community organizations to make this life-saving equipment a reality. That’s why our AED donation program has become such an important part of what we do.

For us, this isn’t about the number of AEDs donated or the dollars involved. It’s about making sure more people have access to an AED when seconds matter most.

We’re grateful to be in a position to give back to the communities that have supported Northern Illinois CPR and First Aid over the years, and we hope this AED is something United Lutheran Church never has to use — but if that day ever comes, it will be there and ready.

❤️ 11 AEDs donated — and hopefully many more to come.
