Our hospital services include multi-specialty surgical services; MRI, CT Scan, x-ray and digital mammography led by an on-site radiologist; rehabilitation and sports medicine clinics in Decorah, Calmar, Cresco and Spring Grove, MN, with outreach to area schools and nursing homes; diabetic education; home medical equipment; home health and hospice; a hospitalist program for 24-hour inpatient care; a swing-bed program for skilled nursing care for rehabilitation and recovery; and obstetrics services. WinnMed also provides urgent care, a 24/7 emergency room and ambulance service staffed physicians, specialized nursing staff and paramedics. Reminder: The last scheduled $10 Coupon Distribution Day is tomorrow, Saturday, June 13, from 9:00–10:30 AM at the Decorah Farmers Market (399 Heivly Street).

If you're 65 or older and live in Winneshiek County, you're eligible to receive $10 in coupons through the WinnMed Senior Nutrition Program to spend on fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables at the 2026 Decorah Farmers Market. 🍅

What should I bring? Please bring proof of age and residency, such as a driver’s license or your WinnMed Farmers Market ID (2025 or 2026).

Who is eligible? There are no income requirements—everyone who qualifies by age and residency is welcome!

We are seeking to hire an Environmental Services Technician to join our Environmental Services team at the Mabel Clinic located in Mabel, MN. The Environmental Services team plays a vital role in keeping the medical center clean and sanitary to assist in the healing process by preventing the spread of infections. This part-time position is scheduled for approximately two days per week. Each shift is estimated to last about two to three hours, depending on need.

Throwback Thursday alert! 📢

Before today’s volunteer programs, hospitals relied on a special group known as “candy stripers.”

This photo shows one of our candy stripers preparing a patient room, an important role that focused on supporting staff and brightening patients’ days. Candy stripers were typically teenage volunteers who assisted with simple tasks like making beds, delivering flowers and mail, and spending time with patients. Their name came from the classic red-and-white striped uniforms they wore 🍬

Programs such as this were especially popular from the 1950s through the 1970s and helped inspire many future healthcare professionals.

As of January 2026, WinnMed is part of Reach Out and Read, a nonprofit, evidence-based program that serves children in all 50 states and reaches more than 4.4 million children each year. Through the program, books and shared reading help families build early language and literacy skills. After each well-child visit, children up to age 5 will receive a new book to keep and read with their families at home.

Today, we’re excited to share our new Reach Out and Read corner at WinnMed! 📚📖✨🙌 We’re grateful to the WinnMed Auxiliary for funding the program furnishing this welcoming new space for young readers. The Reach out and Read corner is located on the Upper-Level waiting area of Decorah Clinic and features books for a variety of ages and furniture to promote comfortable reading spaces for kids.

Children participating in Reach Out and Read show significant improvements in both expressive and receptive language compared with those that don't. Mark your calendar for Sunday, June 14 and enjoy a meaningful day supporting WinnMed Hospice.

Start the morning with a free-will donation breakfast from 9–11 a.m. in the WinnMed Cafeteria (parking available in Lot F). Everyone is welcome, whether you're riding or just stopping by for breakfast. Then hit the road for the poker run, open to all vehicles.

Sign-in: 9–10:30 a.m. at WinnMed in Decorah (Lot F)
Departure: 11 a.m.
Entry fee: $20 per vehicle

The scenic ride through Northeast Iowa wraps up around 4:30 p.m. at PIVO Brewery in Calmar, with a silent auction, door prizes, and refreshments. This year’s proceeds will help update the WinnMed Hospice patient room, supporting comfort and compassionate care for patients and families.
