Pregnancy nutrition sounds great… until chicken and eggs suddenly sound 🤢 and all you want is cereal, pasta & bread. 😂

The good news? Pregnancy nutrition doesn’t have to be perfect.

Registered dietitian Kristen Keenan is back on the podcast today, and we’re talking about how to nourish yourself through nausea, food aversions, fatigue, increased hunger + all the realities of eating during pregnancy. 🤰

Your pelvic floor isn’t just about strength—it also needs to know how to RELAX. 👏🏼

I love how Dr. Kelsy Vick explains the pelvic floor like a trampoline: it provides constant support, but it also needs to be able to lengthen and respond to pressure.

And during pregnancy? That connection becomes especially important as we prepare our bodies for birth. 🤰🏼

Not going to lie, I’ve been busting my butt lately to create a podcast series I’m really proud of and can *hopefully* help a lot of people along the way!

I’m so excited to share the upcoming pregnancy and postpartum interviews and stories that I’m recording, but I also want to share that it takes a lot of time, money, and sacrifice to make it happen - especially to get it all scheduled well before our due date.

I am following through on this series because I’m passionate about it and made a commitment to do so, and if you love the episodes, please comment, share, and review the podcast! This lets new listeners find the podcast AND lets me know what y’all love and what is really worth the effort.

I have a lot of postpartum episodes planned as well, and I’ll be assessing my bandwidth of what coming back to the podcast may look like after having 2 kids in the picture. Hearing from y’all can help me with my decision!

I truly appreciate all the support I’ve received along the way. Love y’all 🫶

Fertility nutrition may look a little different than the “healthy eating” advice we grew up with. 👀

Think adequate protein, healthy fats, nutrient-dense foods—and actually fueling your body for the work of growing new life. 🤍

Your gut + your uterus aren’t living in completely separate universes. 👀

One study comparing women with recurrent pregnancy loss to healthy controls found greater intestinal permeability, higher circulating LPS, and increased inflammatory signaling in endometrial tissue in the recurrent pregnancy loss group.

Does that mean “leaky gut causes miscarriage”? NO—and I want to be very clear about that. But it does add to a fascinating area of research looking at how gut barrier health, systemic inflammation, and the reproductive environment may be connected.

Fertility is a whole-body process. 🤍

🎙️ I break down this study + the bigger gut-fertility connection in my solo episode of Functional Medicine for Moms.

📚 Study: “Recurrent pregnancy loss is associated to leaky gut: a novel pathogenic model of endometrium inflammation?” — Tersigni et al., 2018. PMID: 29665864.

Yep… semen has a microbiome too. 👀

Research is uncovering fascinating connections between microbial patterns in semen and s***m health—including motility, concentration, morphology, oxidative stress, and DNA fragmentation.

Another reason I’ll keep saying it: preconception health is NOT just about the woman. It takes an egg + a s***m. BOTH partners matter. 👏

🎙️ I’m breaking down the gut-fertility connection for women AND men in this week’s solo episode of Functional Medicine for Moms!

You’re taking the prenatal. Tracking ovulation. Maybe checking your hormones…

But how’s your gut? 👀

Fertility is a whole-body process—and gut health deserves a place in the conversation for BOTH partners.

🎙️ My first SOLO episode of Functional Medicine for Moms is all about the connection between gut health + fertility! Listen wherever you get your podcasts or watch on YouTube. 🤍
