Before reaching for a warm or chilled CoreStone, screen first. Treat safely!
Heat may be inappropriate for clients with circulatory or vascular conditions, acute inflammation, fever, infection, reduced sensation, or difficulty reporting heat. Pregnancy, cancer, diabetes, and other medical concerns require appropriate clinical guidance.
Cold may be inappropriate for clients with cold sensitivity, Raynaud’s, significant circulatory concerns, reduced sensation, or acute skin issues that may worsen with cold.
Ask during intake:
“Any circulation, sensation, inflammatory, or medical concerns?”
“Any recent injury, infection, procedure, or medication changes?”
When in doubt, skip thermal work and refer the client to their healthcare provider. This is NOT your hot stone massage; screening and informed consent come first.
What thermal contraindication questions are part of your intake process?
