“I’ll start therapy when things calm down.” It’s something we hear often.

The truth is, life doesn’t always slow down before we need support. Work stays busy. Responsibilities continue. Stress comes and goes.

You don’t have to wait until you’re completely overwhelmed or until you’re “doing worse” to begin therapy.

Therapy isn’t just for moments of crisis. It can also be a place to build resilience, gain insight, and care for yourself before things feel unmanageable.

Immigration evaluations are about much more than completing a report, they’re about creating a space where people can safely share experiences that may be difficult to talk about.

At Corazón Counseling, we approach every evaluation with compassion, professionalism, and cultural responsiveness. Our goal is to provide thorough clinical documentation while honoring each person’s unique story and lived experiences.

July is BIPOC Mental Health Month, a time dedicated to reducing stigma around mental health, increasing access to culturally competent care, and recognizing the unique experiences that shape mental wellbeing within Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color 🤎

Mental health doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Culture, family, community, identity, and lived experiences all influence how we express emotions, cope with stress, seek support, and experience healing 🌱

At Corazón Counseling, we believe meaningful therapy begins with understanding the whole person. We strive to provide culturally responsive care that honors each client’s unique story and recognizes the broader contexts that shape mental health.

While people often use the terms interchangeably, panic attacks and anxiety attacks can feel different.

Understanding what you’re experiencing can help reduce fear and increase self-awareness, especially when symptoms feel intense or confusing.

Immigration evaluations can feel unfamiliar and at times overwhelming, especially when they are part of an important legal process ⚖️

At Corazón Counseling, we aim to make this experience as supportive and respectful as possible. Our clinicians provide trauma-informed, bilingual evaluations that honor each client’s story and lived experience.

We understand the importance of both clinical clarity and compassionate care throughout this process.

I had my last therapy session with a client today, & it finally hit me. As I get ready to step away for maternity leave, seeing the tears from clients (& having my own) reminded me once again just how special this work really is.

I am soooo grateful for every client who has trusted me throughout the years. I thank them for allowing me to walk with them through the hard moments, celebrate the wins, & witness their growth. Being invited into such vulnerable parts of someone’s life is something I never take for granted.

Clients have told me that I’ve changed their lives or that I’m good at what I do. But the truth is, they’ve changed mine. The work we do together is only possible because of their courage, vulnerability, & commitment to showing up for themselves ❤️‍🩹

As for what’s next, I honestly don’t know. I don’t know when I’ll return to providing therapy, what this next chapter will look like, or where my career will take me. What I do know is that I’ll carry all of these experiences, stories, & connections with me in my heart 🥲

For now, I’m stepping into this new season of my life with a lot of gratitude & trust that the next steps will unfold the way they’re meant to 🤍

Con cariño,
Liliana Tena, LCSW

At Corazón Counseling, we believe therapy should be a space where people feel safe showing up fully as themselves, without fear of judgment or needing to minimize parts of their identity.

We are committed to providing compassionate, culturally responsive care that honors each person’s lived experience.

As I prepare to welcome this new chapter of motherhood, I wanted to share that I’ll be going on maternity leave in late June. 💗

While I take this time away, Corazón Counseling will remain open and continue supporting clients through the incredible work of Ana Perez, LCSW and Emely Romero, LCSW, who will continue providing therapy services and immigration evaluations.

Building Corazón Counseling and supporting this community has meant so much to me, and I’m deeply grateful for the trust people place in our team.

Thank you all for your continued support during this special season of life 🌸
