When we stop and listen, we realize our own prayers are echos of Jesus’s own heart. Grace to be and do what is asked of me as a wife and mother, peace in our homes and the lives of our loved ones, help when we are afflicted, personal holiness for ourselves and our families.

Jesus, I trust in You!

Setting a good example for our children does not mean pretending we never fail.
As mothers, we often think of “setting an example” as always being patient, gentle, composed, and virtuous.

But mothers are human.

There will be moments when our patience runs thin. Moments when we speak too sharply. Moments when we raise our voices. Moments when, honestly, we do not set the example we wanted to set.
But our faith gives us another way to see those moments.

Because one of the deepest truths of Christianity is that God’s mercy is real. His redemptive love is real. And when we fail, we are invited not to hide, excuse, or despair, but to return with humility. So when our children see us ask for forgiveness, they are still witnessing something holy.

They are seeing what it looks like to admit fault. To seek mercy. To repair what was wounded. To turn back toward love.

None of us will be perfect mothers. But even our failures do not have to be wasted when we allow God to work through them.

Sometimes the witness our children need most is not the image of a mother who never falls.Sometimes it is the example of a mother who knows how to humbly come back.

Sometimes nursing looks a lot like gymnastics!

At Among Women we’re grateful for the many different journeys we’ve experienced feeding our babies — breastfeeding, formula, donor milk, pumping, donating milk… all the ways, all with love (and maybe some tears, too).

There’s no one right path, and being able to share these experiences with other mamas is such a gift. We nourish our babies on the inside, on the outside, and forever.

And sometimes… that comes with a tiny kick!

I like to think feeding babies is also God’s way of slowing us down to the pace of our babies — reminding us to pause, hold them close, and tend to what matters most… even if dinner ends up on the table later than expected.

For those who are new here, this is Sarah!

Sarah is currently pursuing her doctorate in theology with a focus on the theology of the family, the domestic church, and the sacred role parents play in raising up the saints of tomorrow.

She’s especially passionate about studying the wisdom of the early Church Fathers and helping reframe parenthood not simply as a responsibility, but as a deeply meaningful spiritual vocation with eternal impact.

At Among Women, we believe the home is one of the first and most important places holiness begins! Sarah’s goal on the AW team is to share knowledge with us to help deepen our theological understanding of parenthood and family life!

Just before this verse, Jesus tells us to remain in Him, to keep His commandments and to love one another. It’s helpful to bring ourselves back to this central truth: We don’t just follow the rules of faith because it’s “the right thing to do.” We follow Jesus because He is the source of all of our joy and, as John 15:11 says, He yearns for us to participate in that joy.

As mothers, we can find ourselves constantly concerned with the wellbeing of our families or tired from the daily tasks of our vocation. But when we return to this truth, we’ll find that Jesus is always there waiting for us with open arms and ready to fill our hearts with joy if we only place our trust in Him!

We hope you have a lovely week!

Today, Maria M. shares about the birth of her daughter. Going well past your due date can be a real mental challenge. When every medical document and appointment remind you what the date was “supposed” to be, it can be hard to trust that your body is doing the work it needs to do and that Jesus has a plan! Fortunately, a long walk on the track and a bit of surrender to God’s will were just what she needed to get things moving! If you’ve ever gone we past your due date, what tips and tricks do you have for staying positive? We’d love to hear your stories, thoughts, and tips!

Our faith shows us who God is, who we are, and what family life is meant to reflect. It gives us the “why.”

Science helps us understand how we’re actually built. How our children grow, how their minds develop, how they respond to love, stress, and connection. It gives us the “how.”

These two are not in conflict. They work together.

When we hold both faith and reason, we begin to see our children more clearly. We respond with more patience, more intention, more understanding.

And in that, we are not just raising children well. We are being formed too, drawn deeper into truth, into love, and ultimately closer to Jesus.

It might seem counterintuitive, but one helpful strategy in labor is getting “out of your head” and “into your body.” In a sense, it’s about setting aside the inclination to analyze and assign meaning to every little thing you’re experiencing. It’s about surrendering to the process, accepting it for what it is, and being present to those feelings without assigning meaning. Your body knows what it’s doing. You were designed for this! Trusting your body and trusting the process can be massively helpful in labor. If you’ve had a similar experience we’d love to hear about it!
