During Food Allergy Awareness week, I’m holding a lot of gratitude in my heart. ❤️

Nine months ago, my son started oral immunotherapy (OIT). Today, he ate 14 peanuts. 🥜

Food allergies affect so much more than food. The anxiety, planning, social challenges, and emotional weight are real for both children and caregivers. This added layer of protection has made a big difference in our family.

I’m thankful for advances in food allergy treatment!

If you are navigating life with food allergies and looking for support, education, or guidance, I’d love to connect with you through the Food Allergy Professor. I’m passionate about helping families feel more prepared, confident, and supported along the way.

During Food Allergy Awareness Week, I’m feeling especially grateful for the advances in medicine that are changing the lives of families living with food allergies. ❤️

Nine months ago, my son began oral immunotherapy (OIT) for his peanut allergy. Today, he ate 14 peanuts. A milestone that once felt impossible.

Food allergies impact so much more than what’s on a plate. The social and emotional burden of living with food allergies — and caring for a child with food allergies — is real. Having this added layer of protection has made a world of difference for our family and has brought so much more confidence and peace into everyday life.

Letting them shop = teaching them to advocate for themselves. 🛒

✔️ Check ingredients
✔️ Look for allergen statements
✔️ Make safe swaps

With young children, we keep the language simple and empowering:

We use words like “safe” when reviewing ingredients.

Instead of “I need to check this for you,”
try ➡️ “Let’s check this together to make sure it’s safe.”

✨ A few simple shifts that make a big difference:

• Involve kids early (when age appropriate)
• Use “we” language to build confidence
• Avoid scary words, focus on being cautious, not fearful
• Keep food joyful and safe

Because confidence starts with small moments like this 💛

I had the privilege of presenting this week to Northern Colorado Kids Thrive on the importance of stock epinephrine in early childhood settings.

As food allergy parents, many of you know this already — but it’s worth repeating:

💡 1 in 13 children have a food allergy, and up to 25% of anaphylactic reactions at school happen in children with no prior diagnosis.

That means a child’s first reaction can happen anywhere, including child care or preschool.

This is why stock epinephrine matters so much.
It helps early learning programs act quickly when every minute counts and can truly be lifesaving.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to educate and advocate for safer environments for all children — including yours. Seeing more centers take proactive steps gives me so much hope.

If your child is in childcare or preschool, you might consider asking:
✔️ Do they have stock epinephrine?
✔️ Are staff trained to recognize anaphylaxis?
✔️ Do they have an emergency plan?

Small steps can make a big difference in safety and peace of mind 💛

I'm happy to help centers set up programs if interested, connect with me!
