The better we know someone, the better we can help them heal.

Our coach, Coach Kurinn Wright, spoke with Gambling Insider about the unique experiences of women navigating gambling harm, the barriers they face, what recovery looks like for them, and why person-centered care makes all the difference.

When we take the time to understand someone’s life circumstances, their strengths, and what they need to heal, we build support that people can actually access and trust.

Most people picture recovery as a straight path forward.

The real thing looks more like a loop, except each time around, you are a little further than before.

That’s not failure. That’s how it actually works.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and one of the most useful things you can do this month is get more specific about what checking in actually means.

When you ask someone how they are doing, they almost always say “fine” because that is the easiest answer to give. A better question is asking how they have been sleeping, or what has been taking up the most space in their head lately, or whether they have had a chance to rest in a way that actually felt like rest. Specific questions get specific answers.

The same applies when you check in with yourself. The honest version of the question is rarely “am I okay.” It is usually closer to “what have I been avoiding looking at.”

Mental health is health, and paying attention is most of the work. What’s a question worth asking yourself this month?
