We understand that making a move to independent living is about more than downsizing; it’s about planning to open the door to a new chapter of freedom, comfort, and community. For many older adults across Colorado, this next step often begins with one key question: “Is it a good time to sell my home?”

Did you know the original Elitch Theatre is still part of the Highlands neighborhood today?

It’s a true piece of living history. It also played an important role in launching the career of Antoinette Perry—a Denver-born actress, director, and producer who got her start right here at Elitch Theatre.

She went on to make a major impact on Broadway, even producing the original Harvey. After her passing, the Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Theatre was established in her honor—what we now know as the Tony Awards.

Today, the historic theatre continues to welcome guests for events and productions, keeping its legacy alive for new generations to enjoy.

Discover the Culture in the Highlands

Did you know the Highlands has been a hub for culture and entertainment for well over a century?

Back in 1890, Elitch Gardens made its debut right here in the neighborhood—originally starting as a zoological garden. Even more impressive, Mary Elitch was the first woman in the U.S. to own a zoo, making her a true trailblazer of her time.

Just a couple of years later, in 1892, the famous Elitch Theatre opened its doors and went on to host legendary stars like Douglas Fairbanks, Mickey Rooney, and Grace Kelly.

It’s this rich history of arts, entertainment, and innovation that still shapes the vibrant Highlands culture we know and love today.
