There seems to be a perception that I don’t interview Democrats or reach out to them. That is 100% NOT true and DUMB.
I have had Democrats on this show, including Chris Swanson, Pia Dandiya, and Democrat leaning guests. I’ve also interviewed independents who previously identified as Democrats and still lean in that direction.
Any of them can tell you—without my knowledge and without concern—that I treated them fairly, respectfully, and the same way I treat Republican guests, independent guests, or anyone else who comes on this show.
“Middleground” does not mean pretending I have no opinions or that I lean exactly the same way on every issue. My Republican guests know there are issues where I may be considered liberal, just as there are issues where I may be considered conservative.
To me, and to most reasonable people, being in the middle means taking issues as they come instead of automatically defending one side or attacking the other.
I have reached out to Abdul El-Sayed, Jocelyn Benson, Dana Nessel, Mallory McMorrow, Darin Camilleri, and many others. I even publicly told Abdul El-Sayed that if I was wrong about the way the Hasan Piker situation was being presented—or wrong about my own opinions—I would gladly say so publicly.
The response was an automated message. To be fair, at least the campaign responded with that.
I will have any politician or candidate on this show. I am not a “gotcha” interviewer. There are people who do that exceptionally well, and I enjoy watching them. But that is not who I am, and it is not what everyone wants from an interview.
I want people to be able to talk. I want people to disagree without turning every conversation into a personal attack. People should be willing to express an opinion, defend it, and hear another perspective.
So when more Republicans or independents accept invitations than Democrats, that does not mean I refuse to invite Democrats. I do invite them—often. Many simply never respond.
The door is open to everyone.
