Chase D Smith, M.D.

Chase D Smith, M.D. Welcome to my page! My name is Chase Smith and I am a board certified Orthopedic physician specializing in sports-related injuries and joint replacements.

Dr. Chase Smith graduated magna cm laude from Auburn University and earned his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and a sports medicine fellowship at Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, where he worked with world-renowned orthopaedic sur

geon Dr. James Andrews. While there, he was an assistant team physician for Auburn University and participated in the care of professional, college, and high school athletes and has extensive experience with athletes of all ages, sports and levels of competition. He also cared for the Alabama Ballet, USA Cheer, WWE professional wrestling, the Birmingham Barons (AA-affiliate for the Chicago White Sox), and Birmingham area high school teams. At ASMI, he specialized in minimally invasive arthroscopy and treatment of sports-related injuries, as well as open and arthroscopic treatment of the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee. Before moving back home to Dothan in 2017, Dr. Smith was also an assistant professor in orthopedics specializing in sports medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where he helped take care of collegiate athletes at the University and several other colleges in Arkansas. He has also completed extra training to treat cartilage injuries in the knee with articular cartilage implantation and meniscal implantation. He has special interest in pediatric sports injuries, including throwing injuries of the shoulder and elbow and ACL injuries of the knee. He also has interest in rodeo-related injuries, as he is a member of the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association and actively competes in steer wrestling. In addition to total knee, hip (using the direct anterior approach), and shoulder replacement surgery, Dr. Smith performs minimally invasive surgeries of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle. He treats shoulder instability, labral tears, and rotator cuff tears. He performs ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction and repair of the elbow (also known as “Tommy John surgery”). Dr. Smith brings a new approach to treating non-arthritic hip disorders to Dothan by treating femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and labral tears of the hip utilizing arthroscopy. He also performs ligament reconstruction of the knee (ACL, PCL, MCL, and posterolateral corner) as well as MPFL reconstruction and arthroscopic meniscus repairs. He is also trained in regenerative medicine procedures such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell injections. Dr. Smith, a Dothan native, and his wife Chelsey, an ENT physician, and their three young children enjoy working on their farm, riding horses, and spending time with family and friends.

Happy Father’s Day to the man who taught me how to work hard, figure things out, and never quit when things get tough.

The older I get, the more I realize how much of who I am came from the example he set.

Love you, Dad.

Got to watch my friend Jordan Stanley headline her first comedy show tonight at the Dothan opera house and she absolutely crushed it. Jordan and her husband Jake do an incredible job helping manage my social media, so I’ve had the opportunity to see firsthand how hard they work and how talented they are. But seeing Jordan on stage doing what she loves was something else. Funny, authentic, and completely in her element. Proud of you, Jordan! Congratulations on an incredible first headline show. This is just the beginning.

Behind every successful surgery is a team of dedicated professionals making it all possible.

I'm grateful to work alongside an incredible group that shares the same commitment to excellence and patient care. What I do wouldn't be possible without their expertise, hard work, and support every step of the way.

Medicine is a team sport, and I'm thankful for this team every day.
