Partial Lunar Eclipse August 27th–28th, 2026
During the early hours of 28th August in the UK, Earth’s shadow will cover almost the entire lunar surface. Roughly 96% of the Moon will be obscured, leaving only a thin crescent of light untouched.
The Moon will appear transformed.
Silver may become copper. White may deepen into rust and blood-red shadow. One fragment of light will remain visible as the rest of her face passes through darkness.
This is not a manifestation moon.
This is a release moon.
An eclipse interrupts the familiar light of the Full Moon. In witchcraft, it can be treated as a threshold: a brief opening for confronting hidden emotions, breaking attachments and ending cycles that have already exhausted their purpose.
If you choose to work beneath the eclipse, keep your magic focused.
You will need a black candle, a bowl of water, a small piece of paper and a pinch of salt.
Write down one pattern, attachment or fear you are ready to stop carrying. Do not write another person’s name. Keep the spell centred on your own release.
Place the paper beneath the bowl. Add the salt to the water and light the candle.
Look towards the Moon, or close your eyes and feel her presence above you. Say:
“Moon beneath the shadow,
reveal what I must see.
What has reached its ending
holds no claim on me.
As darkness leaves your face,
let this burden leave me.
What is finished is released.
What remains returns to peace.”
Dip your fingers into the water and touch your forehead, heart and palms. Sit quietly while the candle burns for a few minutes, then extinguish it safely.
Tear the paper into small pieces and discard them away from your altar. Pour the water down the drain, imagining the attachment leaving with it.
Do not ask the eclipse to bring something new.
Let it take what you no longer need.
When the Moon begins returning to silver, whisper:
“The shadow has passed. I do not call it back.”
