Preach Lizzo! So many options on the market that still contain ultra-processed components that defeat the whole purpose of ‘clean-eating’.
Lizzo has explained why she stepped away from a vegan diet, and the reason says more about processed food than about plants.
Speaking on Big Boy's Neighborhood, the four time Grammy winner said she had gone vegan for nearly three years but gained around 50 pounds during that time. She attributes the weight to what she was actually eating, telling the host she was consuming a lot of fake meat. As reported by Complex, Lizzo said the extra weight brought aches and pains, and that she has since shifted toward animal protein for energy alongside using Ozempic.
The detail worth noting is in her own words. The problem she describes is not vegetables, beans, or whole foods. It is a diet built largely on ultra processed meat substitutes, which can be high in calories, salt, and fat whether or not they contain animal products.
Lizzo has not closed the door on plant based eating. She told Complex she still believes veganism is a healthy way to eat and said she hopes to become a raw vegan one day and grow her own vegetables on a farm.
The takeaway is an old one made fresh. Vegan is not automatically healthy, and whole plant foods and heavily processed ones are not the same thing.
