Indigenous peoples have always used rhythm and
repetition as medicine.

These practices remind us that healing flows through
rhythm, balance, and connection. Much like EMDR,
they honor the natural ways our bodies and spirits
move toward restoration.

Some of the hardest moments are made even heavier by the thought: “This shouldn’t be happening.”

But sometimes it is happening. The argument. The loss. The diagnosis. The disappointment. The change we didn’t choose.

Radical acceptance is not saying it’s fair. It’s not approving of what happened, giving up, or pretending you’re okay.

It’s gently saying: “This is real right now. I don’t have to keep fighting the fact that it happened.”

That small shift can make room to breathe. To calm the body. To stop spending every ounce of energy arguing with reality and ask, “What do I need next?”

For a teenager in tears after friendship drama, a parent carrying bad news, or anyone overwhelmed by a situation they cannot fix today, the next step can be very small: a drink of water, a pause, a kind text, a shower, a boundary, or simply getting through the next ten minutes.

Accept reality. Reduce the extra suffering. Choose your next step.
