You may have seen talk about “7-OH products” in the news and here on our social media as our Youth Board recently spoke to County Council about these products.

The DEA has announced its intent to temporarily classify certain highly concentrated 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) products as Schedule I substances. This process is not yet final.

This action does NOT include botanical kratom leaves, but focuses on concentrated or synthetic 7-OH products often sold in retail settings.

We’ll continue to share updates as federal guidance becomes official.

Behavioral Health Services of Pickens County will be closed on Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.

Today, we honor a significant moment in our nation’s history and recognize the importance of reflection, learning, and community.

If you should have a clinical emergency during this time, please call/text 988 or reach out to the SC Mobile Crisis Line at 1-833-364-2274.

We will reopen during normal business hours on Monday June 22nd.

June is Men’s Mental Health Month — a reminder that mental health matters for everyone.

Too often, men are told to “man up,” stay quiet, or push through difficult emotions alone. But stress, anxiety, depression, grief, burnout, and substance use can affect anyone.

Checking in with yourself, or someone you care about, isn’t a weakness. It shows strength.

This month, we encourage everyone to:
✔️ Check in on the men in your life
✔️ Normalize conversations about mental health
✔️ Ask for support when needed
✔️ Remember: struggling silently doesn’t have to be the norm

A simple “How are you really doing?” can matter more than you know.

Congratulations to our RESTORE Community Paramedic, Lane Wood! We appreciate you, Lane and all that you do for our community!

The South Carolina EMS Association is proud to recognize Lane Wood of Pickens County EMS with the 2026 Community Impact Award during EMS Week.

As Pickens County’s first Community Paramedic, Lane has helped strengthen the connection between EMS and the community through preventive care, patient advocacy and long-term support for individuals facing healthcare challenges outside of traditional emergency response situations.

His nomination highlighted his dedication to improving patient outcomes through community outreach, resource coordination and helping connect patients with the care and support they need to improve their quality of life. Lane’s work reflects the evolving role EMS professionals play in addressing healthcare needs beyond the 911 call.

Thank you, Lane, for your dedication to your community and the meaningful impact you continue to make through EMS.
