While we’re still celebrating EMS Week 2026, our Administrator and second crew today had the pleasure of doing a demonstration at the Cairo-Durham Elementary School with Cairo Ambulance. We got to show the kids some of our equipment and how to do CPR on some of our training mannequins, and they got to take a look around inside the ambulance. Thank you for having us, and happy EMS Week!

Wishing a happy EMS week to all of our sister agencies in the county, and to everyone who actively works or have previously worked in emergency medical services. Thank you for all that you do!

This week is EMS week. Dedicated to those individuals who go sleepless shifts handling everything from a stubbed toe to a cardiac arrest, from first response to BLS, and ALS. Whether they operate a Fire Truck, Fly Car, Ambulance, or Helicopter! We appreciate them beyond just this week, as they very rightfully should be appreciated all the time!!

EMS Trivia night is on Sunday, May 17th at The Red Rooster! Starts at 4pm. A little birdie told us we were the first team to register…so who has what it takes to take on the Podunk Hillbilly Rescue Squad?! Be there or be square!

Come have fun or even just say hi, proceeds are being donated to EMS initiatives in our community 🫶 Contact information for registration is posted below!

Good afternoon, folks! I know it’s been a while since we’ve made a post here (don’t tell my boss I’ve been slacking), so here’s a little update for everyone (with pictures, of course).

On Saturday, October 25th we joined Oak Hill-Durham Volunteer Fire Co. and East Durham Volunteer Fire Company for trunk-or-treat at the Oak Hill-Durham firehouse, where EMT’s Kirkman and Byrne handed out candy for an early Halloween, and even decorated the ambulance a little bit. We love doing trunk-or-treat (Halloween is some of our employees favorite holiday), we love seeing everyone come out and participate, and we love seeing all of the costumes you come up with 🎃👻🖤

On Tuesday, October 28th we were surprised by our friends at Doyle Security with treats for National First Responder Day! We greatly appreciate them, and of course the treats they gifted us. EMT’s Kirkman, Holbrook, and Baitsholts were on duty when they came to surprise us. Thank you very much!

We hope everyone had a pleasant (and delicious) Thanksgiving. We’re very grateful for our community, and for our crews and other first responders that await the call, no matter the time of day, night, holiday or regular work day. As we are now in the holiday season, the days are getting shorter and the nights are lingering on. Autumn steadily creeps away from us. While the solstice isn’t until the 21st, Winter has come again, with the first big snowfall of the season starting this morning. While the snowfall is delicately covering the landscape around us, it also brings some heavy reminders to some. We know this season is difficult for a lot of you, as it is difficult for some of us here as well. This is your gentle reminder; remember to take care of yourself during this time as well. It’s the season of giving, which includes you too. Be gentle with yourself and kind to others. In the spirit of giving and holiday season, Durham Ambulance has adopted several children with a local Angel Tree Program.

We’re also hosting a holiday blood drive here at our station on Tuesday, December 16th, from 1-5pm. There is an event posted here on our page, with more details available in it.
We hope you have a warm and bright holiday season. Drink some hot cocoa (or spiced chai, or coffee), keep your loved ones and pets close, and do your best to enjoy the season- even if you really don’t want to. We put up our station Christmas tree today to help us stay in high spirits. Be cautious driving today as the roads are very slick. We know the road crews are working very hard trying to keep them clear, but Mother Nature seems to be working triple time right now. Stay safe out there everyone.

With love and warmth,

Durham Ambulance.

Thank YOU for having us over at the East Durham Volunteer Fire Company main station! EMT Holbrook and AEMT Stanfield pictured giving a tour of 91-2 on Monday night. We love having the opportunities to participate with our local fire departments for drills, walk-throughs, and various other events in town outside of calls for service. Until next time!

Good morning folks! With fast approaching we would just like to give everyone the yearly reminder: if you are attending Greyfox, you CAN NOT park on Durham Ambulance property. This includes the parking lot with our helipad, our employee parking lot, the back yard, the front yard, the side yard, and our back driveway. You CAN NOT block our driveways. Even if it’s “just a couple more hours”. If we have a helicopter inbound, you will not be able to move quick enough and the helicopter will blow your tents away. On top of that, our helipad is FAA certified. With that, anyone is able to land on it, and we don’t always get a heads up if they do. This is your one warning- we will tow any and all vehicles at the owners expense. Stay safe.
