We like to keep it fun! Our classes are about wellness and exercise is our backbone. However, maintaining independence, confidence, and the ability to live well with Parkinson's, is our mission. And of course we want our members to think of exercise as a celebration of all that they can do, and not as a punishment! Keep it fun, keep it fresh, keep it moving!

The Elderwise Podcast episode is out now, featuring our very own Michelle and Karl Hespeler. They talk about what Parkinson's is, what to do after a new diagnosis, the importance of support groups, and how Beat Parkinson's Today can be a resource to help map out their health and wellness journey moving forward. We're grateful for the chance to talk and share with others who care about this fight!

Meet one of our amazing Beat PD Today Trainers, Carlie. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’™

Carlie is a fitness trainer in Wilmington, NC and has been with Beat PD since May of 2025! She got her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and and she is now getting her Masters in Exercise Science and Nutrition.

Two fun facts about Carlie is that she has a twin brother and that she lived and worked in Yellowstone National Park for a summer!

Her favorite part about working for Beat PD is seeing people build confidence in themselves and their capabilities.

We are so glad to have Carlie as part of our team!

We are almost in August! ๐ŸŒž That means we're turning the intensity up a notch and focusing on that heart rate. However, we want to remind you that the intensity of our classes is based on the individual! Our goal is to get you up and moving, but you can still elevate that heart rate and see the benefits with seated movements.

Take a moment to learn what your predicted maximum heart rate will be based on your age from the posted graphic. Then, when you do a heart rate check in class, you have an idea if you're in the ideal range we are aiming for to see the most benefits.

Remember, if you take any sort of medication that affects your heart rate, you'll want to focus more on perceived exertion (1-10 scale) than on heart rate itself.

We can't wait to see you working hard in class all month!

Michelle works hard for her results! It's not always easy, but it's always worth it. Michelle incorporates strength training and cardiovascular training into her weekly routine. Combining both types of training allow her to maintain her confidence in daily life, her independence, and her management of PD symptoms.

Here, she is slowing down the pace and using heavier weights! This is going to help her muscles and joints respond to the resistance and become even stronger and more competent next time she uses them.

Join a class today, and see the difference that exercise can make for you.

We've been getting lots of questions recently about our Video on Demand service that we offer online. ๐ŸŽฅ๐Ÿ“ผ Every month we update our library with more videos so that you always have new workouts to follow. We have videos archived from over the last few years so you can stay consistent, even if you work quickly through our most recent uploads. The Video Library is included with a Premium membership offering unlimited access to classes and archives all month long, or with a separate membership just for the Video on Demand service so that you can take classes on your own schedule and at your own pace. ๐Ÿ’ชโœจ
