Today’s decision on Peptides
What this means to me…

A lot of people look to the FDA for reassurance. Does the FDA always make the right decisions? Of course not. But when they support a pathway for a medication, it provides a level of oversight and accountability that many people value.

What I’ve watched happen over the past few years is this: reputable compounding pharmacies became increasingly limited by regulations, while the gray market stepped in to fill the demand.

The problem is that the gray market isn’t one thing. There are undoubtedly quality manufacturers out there—but there are also products with unknown purity, questionable manufacturing practices, inaccurate dosing, contamination risks, and no medical oversight.

I believe peptides have tremendous potential. I’ve seen them help people in remarkable ways, and I’m excited to see more research and a more defined regulatory pathway.

What worries me isn’t the peptides themselves.

What worries me is seeing so many people buying powders online, mixing medications in their kitchens, calculating doses from internet charts, and injecting themselves without guidance from a qualified healthcare provider. That can turn a promising therapy into a dangerous situation.

My hope is that today’s recommendations are the beginning of a future where patients have greater access to quality-controlled, professionally compounded peptides through licensed pharmacies and knowledgeable medical providers—not because it makes peptides “better,” but because it makes them safer.

That’s a future I can get behind.

🚨 Big News for Peptide Therapy!

Today and tomorrow, the FDA’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee is reviewing 7 peptides that could have a major impact on the future of compounding pharmacies and patient access.

Before anyone starts celebrating (or panicking 😅), here’s what this actually means…

❌ They are NOT deciding if these peptides are FDA-approved.

Instead, they’re asking:

Should licensed 503A compounding pharmacies be allowed to compound these peptides for individual patients under federal law?

That’s a very different question.

The peptides under review are:

✅ BPC-157

✅ KPV

✅ TB-500

✅ MOTS-c

✅ DSIP (Emideltide)

✅ Semax

✅ Epitalon

Why does this matter?

If these peptides are eventually added to the 503A Bulk Drug Substances List, it could:

✔️ Expand patient access through licensed compounding pharmacies

✔️ Give providers more treatment options

✔️ Reduce the need for patients to turn to unregulated “research peptide” websites

✔️ Bring more oversight and accountability to peptide therapy

But here’s the important part…

The FDA is reviewing the available science.

They’re looking at questions like:

• Is there enough evidence?

• Is there an appropriate medical need?

• Is compounding these peptides justified under current law?

This meeting isn’t about whether these peptides “work” or don’t work. It’s about whether there’s enough evidence to support allowing licensed compounding pharmacies to prepare them for individual patients.

My thoughts…

I’ve always believed patients deserve safe, regulated options. I’d much rather see therapies provided through licensed healthcare providers and reputable compounding pharmacies than have patients feel forced to buy products from unknown online sources.

No matter what comes from this meeting, one thing won’t change:

💙 Quality matters.

💙 Sterile manufacturing matters.

💙 Working with licensed providers and reputable pharmacies matters.

⚠️ Before You Buy “Cheap” GLP-1s or Peptides Online… Read This.

We understand the temptation. When you see semaglutide, tirzepatide, or other peptides online for a fraction of the price, it can seem like a great deal.

But there are some important facts every patient should know.

🧪 Not all peptides are the same.

Many products sold through online “research peptide” websites are labeled “Research Use Only” (RUO) or “Not for Human Consumption.” These products are not approved medications and are not intended to be injected into people.

⚠️ Quality can vary dramatically.

Unlike medications prepared through licensed pharmaceutical facilities, products from unregulated sources may have:
• Incorrect amounts of active ingredient
• Unknown impurities
• Sterility concerns
• No independent verification of what’s actually inside the vial

Even if a vial looks professional, there’s no way to judge its quality by appearance alone.

💉 The label matters.

Some online products contain different chemical forms of peptides than those used in FDA-approved medications. These versions have not necessarily been studied for safety and effectiveness in people, and their behavior in the body may differ.

🏥 Medical oversight matters.
