When engaging in discussions about peace of mind planning and post-mortem options with Doulagivers, the term 'body disposition' is commonly utilized.

However, we often express a desire for "softer" and more appealing terminology. 🤔

In the Good Death Good Life Seminar #6 series at the Minoa Library this week, while reviewing the Doulagivers 9 Choices document, I posed the question of whether 'body REPOSITION' could serve as a suitable term to describe the choices made for our bodies after death, essentially selecting a new body 'location' in whatever form is chosen.

The suggestion received favorable feedback.

How do you perceive the term disposition?

Is it possible to consider alternative perspectives?

Recently, the Aging Advocates team had the opportunity to meet with local End-of-Life Doulas, Kristin Barrett-Anderson (www.bringdeathhome.com) and Suzanne Talarico SerenAging with Suzanne, to learn more about the valuable support they provide to individuals and families navigating aging, serious illness, caregiving, and end-of-life planning.

Many people are unfamiliar with the role of an End-of-Life Doula. While they may be present during the final days or hours of life, their work often begins much earlier. End-of-Life Doulas provide emotional, educational, spiritual, and practical support to help individuals and families prepare for the future with greater confidence and peace of mind.

Their services may include:

✨ Advance care planning and discussions about personal wishes
✨ Health care proxy and advance directive guidance
✨ Legacy projects and life review
✨ Education about the dying process
✨ Family support and difficult conversation facilitation
✨ Resource coordination and advocacy
✨ Personalized planning focused on quality of life, comfort, and dignity

One of the biggest takeaways from our conversation was that end-of-life planning isn't just about death, it's about living well, making informed choices, and ensuring your voice is heard. Just as we plan for retirement, finances, and future care needs, planning for the later stages of life can provide comfort, reduce family stress, and help ensure our wishes are honored.

If you'd like to learn more about this important topic, we encourage you to attend an upcoming community discussion led by End-of-Life Doula Suzanne Talarico:

📅 Wednesday, June 10, 2026
⏰ 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍 Minoa Free Library – Community Room A

This month's Good Life, Good Death Series will focus on the Doulagivers 9 Choice Advance Directive and the nine essential questions that help create clarity, comfort, and dignity at the end of life. The discussion is designed for anyone interested in planning ahead, supporting a loved one, or learning more about available resources.

At Aging Advocates, we believe that planning ahead is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves and those we love. We're grateful to Kristin and Suzanne for helping bring these important conversations into our community.

Have you ever worked with an End-of-Life Doula or attended a "Death Café" or advance care planning workshop? We'd love to hear your thoughts below. 🕊

We often feel helpless around grief and death — unsure what to say, afraid of saying the wrong thing.

But those with experience tell us the same thing: what people need most isn't perfect words. It's someone willing to sit with them in the hard moments and truly listen.

Honest listening. No agenda. No rush. No fixing.

It's one of the most human things we can offer each other. 🕯️

Great conversations about Quality of Life and the questions to ask your provider when diagnosed with chronic or potentially life limiting illness at Minoa Library last evening.
We also spent some time on
Palliative/Hospice/Comfort Care and
ways an elder/end of life doula can support you on this continuum of care.

Quality of Life, Aging Well, Peace of Mind Planning sessions for May/June are filling up.

We are back to our regular 2nd Wednesday day slot on June 10th at 11 where I will share more about Doulagivers 9 Choices document.

End of Life Doulagivers work is not all about sitting vigil. Ideally, the relationship starts much sooner and is nurtured over many years before your end of life experience.
