🌈 This Pride Month, we’ve heard from many people who are longing to find a faith community where they don’t have to choose between their identity and their spirituality.

We’ve put together this list of churches and faith communities based on places where we have personally had positive experiences or have observed meaningful, healthy work being done toward creating safer and more affirming spaces.

That said, we know healing from religious trauma is deeply personal. Every person’s story, needs, and experiences are different, and no list can guarantee that a particular church will feel safe or supportive for everyone. Faith communities can also change over time through shifts in leadership, theology, or culture.

If you decide to visit one of these communities, we encourage you to move at your own pace. Trust your intuition. Notice how your body feels. Pay attention to whether your questions are welcomed, your boundaries are respected, and your full self is embraced. You don’t have to rush trust, and you never have to earn belonging.

Whether you’re hoping to reconnect with faith, exploring spirituality for the first time, or simply curious about what’s possible after religious harm, we hope this list serves as a gentle starting point. Above all, we hope you remember this: your safety, your authenticity, and your well-being matter more than finding a church.

You deserve spaces where you are free to be fully YOURSELF 🌈🌈🌈

When did you last feel genuinely moved by a client — and did you let them know?
Karen Pando-Mars invites us to consider what happens when we allow ourselves to be truly affected. Not swept away — but present, open, real. That visibility isn’t a boundary violation. For many clients who grew up with emotionally absent caregivers, it may be the most corrective thing we offer.
Managed neutrality can feel safe. But the client whose attachment history taught them they were too much, too needy, too intense — that client needs to see that they matter to us. That they land.
What do you notice in yourself when you let a client’s pain actually reach you?

Bowlby taught us that the need for a secure base doesn’t end in childhood. In the therapy room, we become that base — not through method, but through presence.
When a client feels genuinely held by our consistency, our attunement, our willingness to stay — something in their nervous system begins to trust that the world might be different than they learned it was.
What does it feel like in your body when you’re genuinely offering that to a client?
