Community members, local businesses, organizations, students, and alumni will come together for a fun-filled parade celebrating BCC history and kicking off its yearlong Centennial celebration.

ADVOCATE SPOTLIGHT!! - Vanessa Martinez

Vanessa is a powerhouse behind the smooth, safe, and steady operations of the Family Life Center Safehouse. As Shelter Manager, she keeps everything running with precision—inventory, supplies, maintenance scheduling, timekeeping review—if it needs organizing, tracking, or fixing, Vanessa is already on it!
But her impact goes far beyond logistics. Vanessa supports in-house clients with genuine compassion, steady reassurance, and thoughtful referrals. She also assists with crisis line and on-call duties. Her gift for asking clarifying questions ensures nothing slips through the cracks—if there’s a detail to uncover, Vanessa will find it.
She’s a caring advocate, a dedicated dog mom, and the proud mother of sons—soon to be a grandmother, which she claims is her “next great adventure.” When she’s not keeping the shelter in top shape, you’ll find her reading, listening to podcasts, cooking, or planning her next travel escape.
Vanessa appreciates the opportunity to help others, and we appreciate that she somehow manages to keep the shelter organized, the clients supported, and the rest of us laughing. She brings heart, humor, and competence to our team, and we couldn’t imagine the Agency without her. Thank you for being who you are Vanessa!
