September is National Recovery Month! Each week, we will be sharing helpful information and resources from our friends SAMHSA. Research shows meaningful human connection supports resilience, hope, and long-term recovery. Every connection can make a difference.

Connections come from different places: Families. Communities. Workplaces. Schools. Local organizations. Peer support. When these pieces work together as one coordinated network, communities create the conditions where lasting recovery becomes possible for more people.

💜 Standing Together for Overdose Awareness

This August 31, The River IOP is proud to participate in the Overdose Awareness Flag Initiative in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day.

We placed purple flags along our property to remember the 77 lives lost to drug overdose in Lorain County in 2025 and to honor the families, friends, and communities who continue to feel those losses.

Each flag represents a life.
Each flag represents someone who mattered.
And each one is a reminder that behind the numbers are real people, real families, and real stories.

At The River IOP, we believe that recovery is possible and that no one should have to face addiction alone. We stand with those who are struggling, those in recovery, those who have lost someone, and everyone working to make our community healthier and stronger.

💜 Ely Square is getting a little more colorful today - and a whole lot more hopeful.

We were proud to be part of Chalk the Walk this morning, alongside so many community partners coming together during Overdose Awareness Month.

From messages of hope and recovery to tributes honoring those we’ve lost, every piece of chalk art carries a reminder: people matter, recovery matters, and compassion matters.

The event continues until 2 PM today, so there’s still time to stop by Ely Square and see the messages our community has created. 🎨💜
