One of my best friends, Rachael, texted me a couple weeks ago saying she had a burned CD for me. It’s 2026, so it came in the form of a Spotify playlist, but still… music to my ears.

Rach has an unbelievable gift for finding things that are meaningful, especially music. As I listened to the playlist she made, I realized music has this strange ability to hold onto pieces of us. Sometimes a song remembers a season before we do. It can bring back people, places, and versions of ourselves we’d forgotten were still in there.

She helped me with my makeup on my wedding day, and if I could put a soundtrack to that morning, it would be a song Rach wrote herself - one that still holds some of my favorite lyrics in the world. It’s amazing how music becomes a time machine. A few chords, and I’m remembering a whole other part of myself.

Her 2026 playlist reminded me of all the summers she and I spent together and got me thinking…

If I only wrote newsletters when I felt inspired, there would be a lot fewer newsletters! I didn’t feel especially inspired when I sat down to write this month, but it turns out that was the newsletter.

One of the things I tell clients all the time is that feelings make great companions but terrible leaders.

The same is true for so many things that matter: healing, relationships, parenting, faith, and growth.

Commitment is often just choosing the next right thing on an ordinary Monday✨
