The movies reflect back to us our collective consciousness- and Barbie is no exception! My colleague and friend Amy and I have created a fun and informative workshop to explore gender dynamics as seen in the latest film Barbie. Gender, power, equality and intersectionality are all important themes for us as therapists to explore. Our next one is August 9th in Marietta. Join us! Link in bio 💕

🌸A compassionate reminder about optimism and tough feelings — and ways to be supportive with ourselves and with others. All feelings are valid. When others meet us with distress, or when we feel distressed, we may experience overwhelm or try to fix it.

Remember to reflect feelings back, stay grounded and care for your own emotions that may pop up too. 🩵💛 we all want to feel heard and validated… And you deserve it!

I love Dr Gabor Mate’s work - and this reminder to engage ourselves with compassionate curiosity. A few ideas to get started:
What am I feeling in this situation- with this person - in this moment?
What is my energy level right now?
How does this food fuel or deplete me?
Do I feel uplifted in my career, relationship, situation?
What can I do to feel more at ease?

Sometimes these answers come slowly and so being gentle with the process is key. And consistently 🥰 how can you be more compassionately curious with yourself and others?

Happy Monday! Soothing our senses can be a way to stay grounded and drop down into the body whenever we are feeling overstimulated or anxious.
Here are some quick tools to soothe your sensory system and take care of your mood a little more 💛💛🌸🌷

🌷Happy spring, and happy eclipse season! 🌜
With the pollen flowing here in Georgia, it has many of us reaching for tissues, but also noticing how our bodies may be attuned to changes around us. Many of our clients who come to our office are highly sensitive, meaning that they (we) feel things deeply. This can be moods, feelings, and even having heightened senses (to foods, smells, noises - even changes in the moon!). If this sounds like you, know that you aren’t alone. And, if this is you, caring for yourself is so important, maintaining daily rituals of self-love. It could look like, sitting down to eat your meal, listening to music that uplifts you, turning off your phone or social media, or taking a five minute break in your day to stretch. For highly sensitive people, and/or highly empathic people, it’s the little joys in life that can make all of the difference.

So, if you find that you might be feeling overstimulated, from the pollen, to work or school demands, to relationship issues, or even just the loud music your teen blasts in the morning, remember to take a pause and care for yourself and your nervous system. Our sensitivity is a profound gift - be sure to treat it as such - despite living in a ‘not so sensitve’ world.
Sending you love!
