Kavalactones are the naturally occurring compounds in kava root responsible for its range of effects—from bright and cerebral to deeply relaxing. 🌿

Because kavalactones are poorly soluble in water and more attracted to fats, traditional kava is prepared by kneading and massaging the ground root in water. This helps release the root’s resins and fine particles, allowing the kavalactones to become suspended throughout the drink rather than fully dissolving.

The result is the cloudy, earthy “mud water” we know as kava. This bubbly layer is a combination of kavalactones, resins, and other fine particles.

The aroma is grounding, pungent and unmistakably of the earth—something I’ve genuinely grown to appreciate.

I’m in experimentation mode these days: learning, observing and continually refining the process.

🌝The lunar nodes have moved from the Pisces–Virgo axis into Aquarius and Leo, closing an 18-month chapter.

🐠The North Node in Pisces asked us to open ourselves to a greater sense of the cosmic world—to zoom out and remember the innate connection woven throughout all living things.

It asked us to remember the parts of ourselves, and one another, that are timeless, ageless and formless.

There are so many pathways into this remembrance: dance, yoga, meditation, plant medicine, cooking, singing and creating.

🌾The South Node in Virgo asked us to integrate this expanded perspective into something tangible and embodied—to remember that there is something innately spiritual about caring for our bodies, tending to our daily routines and nurturing the people and places that make up our everyday lives.

We do not need to go anywhere special to experience the sacred.

We simply have to keep remembering that life is infused with it in each and every moment.
