Water πŸ’¦ Safety Tip #22 - Even on calm, sunny days. Knowing what to do can save your life. πŸ–οΈ
A rip current is a powerful channel of water moving away from shore. These currents can quickly pull swimmers away from the beach, but staying calm and knowing how to respond is key.
πŸ’‘ Rip Current Safety Tips:
βœ”οΈ Swim near a lifeguard whenever possible
βœ”οΈ Pay attention to warning flags and beach conditions
βœ”οΈ Never panic if caught in a rip current
βœ”οΈ Swim PARALLEL to the shore to escape the current
βœ”οΈ Float or tread water if you can’t escape right away
βœ”οΈ Always keep a close eye on children near the ocean
🌊 Remember: Rip currents are the #1 cause of beach rescues. Awareness and preparation make all the difference.
Be aware. Be prepared. Be safe. πŸ’™

Water πŸ’¦ Safety Tip #21 - Studies show that children with autism are at a significantly higher risk for drowning due to wandering tendencies and attraction to water. That’s why early swim lessons, clear safety routines, and close supervision can make a life-saving difference. πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ
✨ Water safety tips for children with autism:
βœ”οΈ Always maintain active supervision near water
βœ”οΈ Use clear and consistent water safety rules
βœ”οΈ Enroll in swim lessons with experienced instructors
βœ”οΈ Practice water safety routines often
βœ”οΈ Celebrate every small success and confidence milestone
Drowning is preventable, and every child deserves the opportunity to feel safe and confident in the water. πŸ’™

🚨 WATER SAFETY TIP #20 🚨
Pool alarms can provide an extra layer of protection and help alert families when someone enters the pool area or water unexpectedly. πŸ’¦
There are several types of residential pool alarms available, including:
βœ”οΈ Water surface alarms
βœ”οΈ Door and gate alarms
βœ”οΈ Submerged pool alarms
βœ”οΈ Wearable child alarms
While alarms are helpful, they should NEVER replace active adult supervision. Layers of protection save lives β€” including supervision, swim lessons, fencing, locked gates, and pool alarms. πŸ›Ÿ
Stay prepared. Stay alert. Keep kids safer around water. πŸ’™

πŸ–οΈ WATER SAFETY TIP #19 πŸ–οΈ
A fun beach day starts with safety first! πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈ
Beach conditions can change quickly, and strong waves or rip currents can become dangerous in seconds. Staying alert and prepared helps keep everyone safer in and around the water.
πŸ’¦ Beach Safety Reminders:
βœ”οΈ Swim near a lifeguard whenever possible
βœ”οΈ Watch for rip current and warning flags
βœ”οΈ Never turn your back on the ocean
βœ”οΈ Keep children within arm’s reach
βœ”οΈ Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun
The beach should be full of fun memories β€” not emergencies. Stay aware, stay prepared, and enjoy the water safely! πŸ’™

🚨 WATER SAFETY TIP #18 🚨
Shallow Water Blackout is a silent and dangerous risk that can happen in seconds β€” even in shallow water.
SWB can occur when someone hyperventilates before holding their breath underwater, causing them to lose consciousness without warning.
πŸ’¦ Important reminders:
βœ”οΈ Never practice prolonged breath-holding underwater
βœ”οΈ Avoid hyperventilating before swimming
βœ”οΈ Always actively supervise children around water
βœ”οΈ Teach safe swimming habits early
Water safety starts with awareness, education, and preparation. Let’s work together to keep our families safer in and around the water. πŸ’™

πŸ’™ WATER SAFETY TIP #16 πŸ’™
Teaching children how to float is one of the most important life-saving skills they can learn. A calm child who knows how to float can stay above water, breathe, and buy valuable time in an emergency. 🌊
Floating helps children:
βœ”οΈ Stay calm in the water
βœ”οΈ Build confidence around pools and lakes
βœ”οΈ Learn survival skills that can save their life
Water skills are life skills, and every child deserves the chance to learn them early. πŸ’¦
At Survival Swim with Alyssa, we focus on building confidence, safety, and aquatic survival skills one lesson at a time. 🩡

🌧️ Water Safety Tip #15: Flood Water Safety 🌧️
Floodwaters are far more dangerous than they may appear. Fast-moving water can sweep away children, adults, pets, and even vehicles in seconds. Just a small amount of water can create a life-threatening situation.
🚫 Remember:
β€’ Never walk, swim, or play in floodwaters
β€’ Never drive through flooded roads
β€’ Stay away from storm drains, ditches, and fast-moving water
β€’ Follow all road closures and warning signs
⚠️ Floodwater can contain:
β€’ Strong currents
β€’ Hidden debris
β€’ Open manholes or washed-out roads
β€’ Dangerous bacteria and contaminants
πŸ‘€ During storms and heavy rain, close supervision is critical β€” especially around puddles, drainage areas, retention ponds, and standing water.
πŸ’™ The best protection is preparation, awareness, and staying alert around all forms of water.
Be aware. Be prepared. Be water safe.

🚫 Water Safety Tip #14: Floaties Are NOT Safety Devices 🚫
Floaties may seem fun, but they can actually create a dangerous false sense of security around water. Arm floaties, puddle jumpers, and inflatable toys are not designed to keep children safe and can give kids confidence they aren’t ready for.
⚠️ Floaties can:
β€’ Slip off or deflate
β€’ Encourage unsafe swimming habits
β€’ Reduce healthy respect for water
β€’ Make children think they can swim independently
πŸ’™ Real water safety starts with:
βœ”οΈ Constant adult supervision
βœ”οΈ Staying within arm’s reach
βœ”οΈ Layers of protection around water
βœ”οΈ Water competency & survival swim lessons
Remember: Skills save lives β€” not floaties.
Teaching children how to safely respond in the water is one of the greatest gifts we can give them. 🌊
