Samual Paul Ayers, 34, of Sutton, WV, passed away on May 6, 2026. He was born on July 10, 1991, in New Port Richey, FL.

We remember and celebrate the life of a man who left this world far too soon at just 34 years young, a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a father, and a friend. Someone whose presence brought laughter, excitement, and love into the lives of the people around him.

He loved life in a loud and fearless way, whether it was four-wheelers kicking up mud, fast cars flying down backroads, or simply enjoying time with the people he loved the most. He loved with passion and energy. He was the kind of person who could make an ordinary day feel unforgettable.

His smile, his jokes, and the way he carried himself will stay in our hearts forever.

To his mom, Kari
No words can truly ease the pain of losing a son. The bond between a mother and a child is one that never fades the love that you gave him shaped the man he became, and that love will continue to live on through every memory shared today.

To Dad (Franklin Helmick, Jr.)
Even though you weren’t the part that helped create him, you loved him as one of your own. From the little boy he was to the grown man he became, you were always willing to be there when he needed you. You loved and cared for him more than he knew. A son to a father, that’s what he was, and how grateful you were to share his life and to accept him as you always did

To his sister, Amanda
You shared a lifetime of memories, from childhood moments to the ups and downs only siblings understand that connection can never be broken, even by loss.

To his grandmother and aunts
Thank you so much for the love, guidance, and support you gave him throughout his life. Family meant everything to him, and he carried that love with him every day.

To Kaylee
Your father loved you more than anything in this world. He may not always have known the right way to do things, but I know he loved you with his whole heart.

Though his life here on earth was shorter than anyone wished. The impact he made will never be forgotten. We will remember the sound of his laughter, the stories, the rides, the memories, and the love he gave so freely

As we say goodbye, we hold onto this truth: a life is not measured by the number of years lived but by the love given and the memories left behind, and he gave us so much to remember.

May he rest in paradise, and may we carry his memory with us always.

A service will be planned for a later date.

Shirley Ann Lloyd, 90, of Flatwoods, WV, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on April 28, 2026.

A woman of unwavering faith: that is how the world would describe Shirley Ann Singleton Lloyd. Rooted in her faith, Shirley led her family, many friends, and neighbors to Christ through her devotion, humility, and faithful actions. Shirley was born on August 22, 1935, to William Ray and Mary Louise Singleton of Burnsville, West Virginia. Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles R. Lloyd, her brother Robert E. Singleton, and sister-in-law Betty Singleton, stepson Doug Lloyd, stepdaughter Cheryl Delp, and great niece Jennifer Singleton Bird. She is survived by her loving children, Donald E. Conrad (Donna) of Flatwoods, and Linda L. Leggett (Rick) of Burnsville. She is also survived by her special nephew Doug Singleton (Linda), stepchildren Sharon Kathy Lloyd, Chuck Lloyd (Carla), and Greg Lloyd (Betty). Shirley is survived by 7 grandchildren: Shalee Nottingham (Stoney), Mitchell Leggett (Shelly), Daniel Smith (Kristin), Erin Barnhart (Clayton), Andrew Smith (MaryBeth), Justin Conrad (Stephanie), Bridgett Carson (Nickolas), and one great niece, Jessica Ball (Travis), and their daughter Lilly. Shirley is also survived by 4 step-grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Shirley graduated from Burnsville High School in 1953. She carried contagious pride for the Burnsville community and the school and worked diligently on the Kanawha Alumni Association for many years. She worked in her family’s business, the Burnsville Taxi Stand, cooking, serving, and driving the taxi. She also worked for the FBI in Washington D.C., Home National Bank in the Loan Dept., and later as a teller, and worked as a bookkeeper for Lloyd’s Stave Company with her husband.

Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church of Burnsville since 1968. Shirley played the piano and taught Sunday School up until recently, when she wasn’t able to due to her health.

Shirley exuberated leadership and steadfast faith as a den mother for Cub Scouts and headed the Rose Buds. Shirley also led the Women’s Mission Circle at Burnsville Baptist Church for many years and was a member for many more, in addition to being a member of the Heaters Lions Club and Kanawha Alumni Association.

Shirley loved her family, her church, her community, loved bird watching, the Andy Griffith Show, and local history. Shirley married Charles R. Lloyd in 1986, and they spent the next 34 years in a beautiful marriage. Shirley and Charles traveled to other countries, nearly all 50 states, and enjoyed their time together immensely. They blended their families and made sure everyone was included and cherished every chance they got. Shirley made sure to be the matriarch of the family that every member would be proud to be a part of and look to her for guidance. We are all deeply saddened by her death; however, we know she is in Heaven waiting for us one day, and we can take comfort in her steadfast faith and conviction.

To her family, may her memory be found in the simple, beautiful moments: in the sight of a pair of cardinals, in the fragrance of blooming lilacs, and in the joyful notes of a beloved hymn played on the piano.

Service will be at 11 am, Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Stockert Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV. Visitation will be on Monday from 6-8 pm at Stockert Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Flatwoods Cemetery, Flatwoods, WV.

In lieu of flowers, donations to WV Caring, Kanawha Alumni Association, or the Flatwoods Fire Department would be appreciated.
