💃🏼 Confessions from a physical therapist who treats pelvic floor disorders:

Take one!

Okay- I’m training for my 6th half marathon (end of November) but first since having a baby 9 months ago.

I’ve been doing good with following a slow ramp up of mileage, stretching before and after running, staying hydrated…but I had some leakage at the end of my run on Sunday despite my bladder not feeling full at all..what happened!?

After much reflection, it hit me that I had never run that mileage while pushing my son in the jogging stroller before! (He is ~ 25lbs and the stroller is probably at least 15lbs as well). Talk about my pelvic floor being over worked. Also, from holding onto the stroller, I can almost guarantee my thoracic rotation was not great, along with more trouble keeping my ribs stacked over my pelvis. These led to less control over my pelvic floor and alas, the dreaded feeling of leakage.

I literally couldn’t move for 3 minutes once I stopped running, as every step I took it seemed like I was leaking. I had to literally stand still by the stroller as my son looked up at me with the “what the heck are you doing? keep moving, mom!” look. I crossed my legs, kegeled but honestly the most helpful? I sang a freaking song to calm my body down and once the urge left, I walked calmly to my car, lifted my baby and stroller in the car without leakage and I was able to make it home to fully void but man- talk about humbling and a way to connect with your patients! 😂

Wednesday: 8am-5pm
Thursday: 9am-5pm
Friday: 9am-5pm
Saturday& Sunday: CLOSED

Andrea would really love to be able to spend more time with her son and husband in the evenings- after all, Liam won't be little forever, right? 🥹
