πŸš‘β EMS Legacy Spotlight: 10+ Years of Service βπŸš‘

Today we are honored to recognize Kevin for his 34 years of dedication to EMS and the countless lives he has impacted throughout his career.

❀️ What inspired you to get into EMS?
Kevin’s journey began after taking a CPR class while working at a local plant. When some friends became involved in EMS, he decided he wanted to learn how to help people too. That simple desire to serve others became a lifelong calling.

βš™οΈ One piece of equipment you wish you had when you first started?

The power stretcher.

πŸ“š Most important lesson EMS has taught you?

β€œThe more things change, the more they stay the same.” While medicine, technology, and protocols continue to evolve, the heart of EMS remains caring for people when they need it most.

πŸ† Greatest accomplishment?

Giving someone he knew a few more years of life.

πŸ’‘ Best advice you have received or would give to the next generation?

Don’t let EMS consume your life. Take time to live, enjoy the moments that matter, and build a life outside of the uniform.

⏱️ How many years have you been in EMS?

The Lucas Device.

πŸš‘β EMS Legacy Spotlight: 10+ Years of Service βπŸš‘

Today we’re honored to recognize Madi and celebrate 10 years of dedication to EMS!

πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ Years of Service
Madi has proudly served in EMS for 10 years. Her journey into this profession was inspired by a very special little girl, but along the way she has been blessed with countless mentors who saw potential in her, challenged her to grow, and encouraged her to go further than she ever thought possible.

🎧 A Piece of Equipment You Wish You Had When You First Started

β€œHonestly, my favorite piece of equipment is the Bluetooth radio.”

Nothing beats grabbing Seven Brew with your best friend before shift and jamming out to your favorite songs. EMS can be heavy. While the equipment on the truck helps us take care of our patients, a great partner, a cup of coffee, a late night ice cream run, and singing at the top of your lungs are often what help take care of you.

πŸ“š Most Important Lesson EMS Has Taught You

EMS has taught Madi just how fragile and temporary life truly is. In a matter of seconds, everything can change. It has taught her not to take the people she loves for granted, to say the things that need to be said, and to appreciate the ordinary moments.

β€œKindness is never wasted. Sometimes holding a hand or whispering a prayer can be just as important as any intervention.”

πŸ† Greatest Accomplishment

Madi doesn’t consider patient saves or successful outcomes to be her greatest accomplishment because she believes God owns all of those successes, and she has simply been blessed to be a small part of each patient’s story.

What she is most proud of is the opportunity to inspire and influence other providers. Helping encourage, mentor, and shape the careers of future EMTs and paramedics has been incredibly rewarding. Watching someone grow into a confident and compassionate provider is a reminder that our impact isn’t measured only by the patients we treat, but also by the people we help become better caregivers.

πŸ’‘ Advice for the Next Generation of EMS Providers

β€œNever stop learning, never lose your compassion, and remember that every patient is someone’s loved one.”

Take care of your mental health. Lean on your partner when you need support. Understand that while you won’t be able to save everyone, you can always make a difference. The skills will come with time, but the heart you bring to the job is what people will remember most.

❀️ β€œAt the end of every single day, we’re human first.”

Thank you, Madi, for a decade of service, compassion, mentorship, and dedication to both your patients and fellow providers. Your impact reaches far beyond the back of an ambulance and continues to shape the future of EMS every day.

πŸ πŸ’™ A Safer Home for Those We Love

As our family members and friends age, simple home modifications can make a big difference in preventing injuries and maintaining independence.

βœ… Install grab bars in bathrooms and near toilets
βœ… Improve lighting in hallways, bedrooms, and stairways
βœ… Remove loose rugs and trip hazards
βœ… Add non slip mats in tubs and showers
βœ… Ensure frequently used items are easy to reach
βœ… Consider handrails on both sides of stairways

Falls are one of the leading causes of injury among older adults, but many can be prevented with a few simple changes around the home.

Taking time to create a safer environment today can help your loved ones stay independent, confident, and safe for years to come. πŸ’™

πŸš‘β EMS Legacy Spotlight: 10+ Years of Service βπŸš‘

This week we are proud to recognize Sarah and celebrate 29 years of dedication to EMS, education, and service to others!

⏱️ How many years have you been in EMS?

I have been in EMS for 29 years, including 10 years serving as a medic in the military. My inspiration came from a local volunteer fire department that adopted me as their rookie mascot when I was 16 years old and introduced me to the world of fire and EMS. I also worked as a 911 dispatcher before leaving for the military.

🩺 What is one piece of equipment you wish you had when you first started?

I think the most important piece of equipment is your gut instinct. However, a Lucas Device probably would have saved my back after all these years of performing CPR.

πŸ“š What is the most important lesson EMS has taught you?

Life is incredibly fragile. Live it to the fullest while you have the chance.

πŸ† What is one of your greatest accomplishments in EMS?

The legacy I have left in my students. They have made me prouder to be in this profession than anything else. Every life they save is a testament to their brilliance and talent, and I love knowing I may have had a small part in helping them get there.

πŸ’‘ What advice would you give to the next generation of EMS professionals?

Stay humble. Humility is a virtue worth protecting. Never forget to take care of yourself throughout your career. Caregivers cannot be effective if they are physically and mentally exhausted. Give yourself grace when you need it and remember that taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of others.

πŸ‘ Thank you, Sarah, for nearly three decades of service, mentorship, and leadership. The impact you have made reaches far beyond the patients you have treated and lives on through the countless students and providers you have helped shape throughout your career.

🧴🍬 Poison Look Alike Awareness

Many household products can look surprisingly similar to food, drinks, or candy, especially through the eyes of a child.

⚠️ Laundry pods may resemble candy
⚠️ Cleaning solutions can look like sports drinks or juice
⚠️ Medications can be mistaken for mints or candy
⚠️ Dishwasher pods and detergent packets may appear harmless

βœ… Store all medications and household chemicals out of reach and out of sight
βœ… Keep products in their original containers
βœ… Never refer to medicine as candy
βœ… Secure cabinets with child safety locks when needed

A moment of curiosity can lead to a serious emergency. Taking simple precautions today can help protect the little ones who depend on us every day. πŸ’™

πŸš‘β EMS Legacy Spotlight: 10+ Years of Service βπŸš‘

This week we are proud to recognize David and celebrate 30 years of dedication to EMS and patient care!

⏱️ How many years have you been in EMS?

30 years. I grew up watching Emergency! and always had an interest in helping others. When my wife was in nursing school, I decided I wanted a career in healthcare too.

🩺 What is one piece of equipment you wish you had when you first started?

POWER LOAD!

πŸ“š What is the most important lesson EMS has taught you?

There are too many lessons to count, but the biggest one is to be the calmest person on scene. It is not my emergency, it is theirs.

πŸ† What is one of your greatest accomplishments in EMS?

What I call the β€œJennifer Call.” It was an impossible airway with an extremely difficult intubation. By the grace of God and a few bubbles, I got it.

πŸ’‘ What advice would you give to the next generation of EMS professionals?

Always keep learning. Listen more than you speak. Remember to be the coolest and calmest person on scene. Do not work too much. Have a life outside of EMS and take care of yourself along the way.

πŸ‘ Thank you, David, for three decades of service, leadership, and dedication to your patients, coworkers, and community. Your experience and steady presence continue to make a difference every day

βš‘πŸ‘Ά Protect Curious Little Explorers

As toddlers begin crawling, standing, and taking their first steps, they become eager to investigate everything around them, including electrical outlets.

βœ… Install outlet covers or tamper resistant outlet protectors
βœ… Keep cords tucked away and out of reach
βœ… Secure power strips and surge protectors
βœ… Regularly inspect outlets for damage
βœ… Supervise children in areas with accessible electronics

Children explore their world with their hands, and sometimes their curiosity can lead them to hidden hazards.

Taking a few minutes to childproof electrical outlets can help prevent serious injuries and provide peace of mind as your little one grows and explores. πŸ’™
