June is PTSD Awareness Month, and one of the things we want people to understand is that trauma in teens rarely looks like what most people picture. 💜
It doesn't always come from one big event.
It can be a series of smaller things that piled up – difficulties at home, a relationship that hurt them, something that happened at school. Over time, these experiences start to shape how a teen sees the world and whether or not they can feel safe in it.
What it often looks like from the outside:
😶 Emotional flatness or disconnection
💢 Anger that flares without a clear reason
🚪 Avoiding people, places, or topics without explanation
😴 Sleep that's constantly off
🎯 Always on edge – waiting for the next thing to go wrong
Both "Big T" and "Little t" trauma respond to the right treatment. And the earlier it starts, the less hold that trauma has on the rest of their life. 🌳
