ā€œIf you suffered a concussion today, how would you handle work?ā€

Research shows us that folks who return to work (or school) by day 10 after their injury do significantly better. Here’s what those 10 days look like!

Concussion rehab is filled with terms like ā€œvestibularā€, ā€œcervicogenicā€, ā€œvisual-vestibularā€ and even ā€œcervico-visuo-vestibularā€. Um, come again? What does this all mean??

These slides from a presentation I did earlier this year - and recently agreed to do another round next year! - are meant to simplify what your brain uses to keep you moving, balanced and confident.

Your brain takes in information from 3 main systems - your eyes (visual), your inner ear (vestibular), and your body (cervicogenic = from your neck, somatosensory = from your body).

Your brain integrates these into a picture of where you’re at and where you’re going. We often call this ā€œposition senseā€ and ā€œmovement senseā€. Refining/rehabbing these 3 systems to give you a better picture, with less effort required, is a staple of post-concussion rehab & vestibular rehab.

Let’s finally put this to bed so we can get growing our beautiful brains through active, specific, personalized rehab!

TLDR; sitting in a dark room after a concussion makes your symptoms worse and your recovery longer - don’t do that. Rather, return to life in a symptom-guided, nurturing way and get the help of an expert to guide you along the way. šŸ™‹ā€ā™‚ļø

Consistency beats intensity every time - especially when it comes to concussion rehabilitation.

In fact, consistency is the foundation for intensity.

Stick with it day in and day out. Build your foundation with hydration, nutrition, sleep and movement/exercise. Then, you’ll create bandwidth for the specific, personalized rehab that helps you grow into a symptom-free baddie.

Follow for more insight into concussion rehab!
