🌬️ Breath Empowerment for ALS Patients: Strengthen, Sustain, Control 🌬️
As someone with years of experience as an opera singer, I know firsthand how critical diaphragm control and breath strength are. In singing, it’s the difference between hitting the right note or losing your breath. For ALS patients, it’s the difference between maintaining control of your breathing, speech, and quality of life.
That’s why I developed the “Breath Empowerment for ALS” regimen, combining my knowledge of breath control from opera with targeted exercises for ALS patients. This program is designed to:
• Improve Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) scores (a key measure of respiratory health).
• Strengthen the diaphragm and respiratory muscles to keep you breathing easier.
• Support and preserve voice strength and better breath control.
• Help you maintain independence for longer, delaying the need for mechanical ventilation.
🧠What Does the Routine Include?
Using a breathing resistance trainer, this program focuses on:
• Engaging the diaphragm fully.
• Strengthening respiratory muscles with resistance for both inhalation and exhalation.
• Techniques I learned from years of singing, now adapted to help ALS patients maintain control over their breath and voice.
These exercises may seem simple, but they can make a world of difference when practiced regularly.
Take charge of your breathing.
