Operations isn’t about ego or proving you’re right—it’s about leadership. It’s about partnership, especially with clinical, and aligning toward a shared mission.
In operations, you’re often wired to think five steps ahead. You can see challenges before they surface. Not everyone will share that same lens—and that’s okay. Strong leaders don’t force perspective; they meet people where they are and bring them along.
What I teach my team is a simple internal check:
Should I say something?
Not every thought needs to be voiced. Has it already been addressed? Is it necessary?
When should I say it?
Timing matters. If someone just walked out of a long, high-stress meeting, that may not be the moment to be heard.
How should I say it?
Tone, body language, and intention carry just as much weight as the message itself.
Am I ready to hear the response?
You might be met with agreement—or pushback. Are you open and grounded enough for either?
This approach keeps us aligned with our values, reduces unnecessary tension, and creates space for perspective. We won’t always be right—but even when we are, how we deliver the message determines whether it actually lands.
