Former Miss USA Cheslie Kryst Died by Su***de, Medical Examiner Says
Her mother said Ms. Kryst, a reporter and former attorney, suffered from ‘high-functioning depression which she hid from everyone’

Former Miss USA Cheslie Kryst died this week by su***de, according to the local medical examiner’s office, and her mother spoke out about how the former pageant winner was struggling with depression.

Ms. Kryst, who was the 2019 Miss USA, died after falling from a New York City high-rise on Sunday. The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner said Thursday that Ms. Kryst died from multiple blunt impact injuries.

Ms. Kryst’s mother, April Simpkins, said in a statement that she has “never known a pain as deep as this.”

“Cheslie led both a public and a private life. In her private life, she was dealing with high-functioning depression which she hid from everyone—including me, her closest confidant—until very shortly before her death,” Ms. Simpkins said.
