It is an honor to partner with the Center for Transforming Lives for the life-changing work of creating access to education. Through this workforce development program, we're offering the Pharmacy Technician Preparation Course. For these strong, resilient learners, this is not only a pathway to a meaningful career in healthcare but also a pathway to building a healthy quality of life for themselves and their children.
We want to thank our UNT Health Fort Worth colleagues who masterfully designed this course to help people confidently join a workforce that makes it possible for pharmacies to be a vital healthcare touchpoint in our communities: course creator and College of Pharmacy and Health Professions professor Jennifer Taylor Fix, instructional designers Leila Mahmoudi and Marcus Taylor, senior instructional media specialist Adam Van Fossen, and instructional media specialists Nicholas Alexander, Casey Moore and Edward Hillers.

A new set of workforce training pilots from Center for Transforming Lives is creating fast, practical pathways into high-demand careers for single mothers in Tarrant County. Launched in partnership with UNT Health Fort Worth and CLC, Inc. - Training & Employment Services, the programs combine short-term certification with free child care, transportation access and volunteer tutors. The initiative is designed to help participants quickly secure employment earning approximately $45,000 annually, with the potential to grow into long-term careers.

“Without child care or reliable transportation, it’s nearly impossible for a single mother to get the credentials she needs to build a secure career,” said Carol Klocek, CEO of Center for Transforming Lives. “By working with community partners like UNT Health and CLC, Inc., we’re able to create a path to a living wage, while also helping meet the need for trained workers in Tarrant County.”

Let us congratulate Dr. William Weiss on his recent co-authored publication 'Development and validation of a rabbit model of Pseudomonas aeruginosa hyper dynamic septic shock for preclinical drug development' in PubMed. Dr. Weiss is a pharmacy Instructor and Executive Director of Preclinical Research Services with the College of Pharmacy and Health Professions. We're proud to celebrate Dr. Ayyappa Chaturvedula, Associate Professor of pharmacotherapy, on his recent election to the American College of Clinical Pharmacology Board of Regents for the 2026 - 2031 term.

The College of Pharmacy and Health Professions proudly celebrates the accomplishments of Dr. Rebecca Cunningham for the publication of her article, “Twenty Years of S*x and Gender Science in Health Research: A Policy Statement from the Organization for the Study of S*x Differences,” in Springer Nature.

Dr. Cunningham also shared her latest research at the annual AACP Conference, presenting four posters focused on s*x differences in brain signaling, hypoxia-related responses, and the effects of prenatal mercury exposure on development and health impacts.

Join us in celebrating Dr. Bo Zhou, Assistant Professor, and Dr. Rolake Neba, Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacotherapy, College of Pharmacy, for their outstanding research achievements.
🔸 Their research paper, “Interpretable Machine Learning for Rare Events: An Inverse Probability Weighted Application to Understanding Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists Use and Incident Alcohol-Related Disorder,” was recognized through poster presentations at both the Annual Meeting of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) and the Institute for Health Disparities Conference, where they received a Certificate of Recognition.
🔸 We also congratulate them on presenting their research, “An Explainable Machine Learning Analysis of Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonist (GLP-1 RA) Use and Opioid-Related Diagnosis Risk Among Adult Medicaid Beneficiaries,” at the ISPOR Annual Meeting.

Congratulations to Dr. Kyle Emmitte, Sr. Associate Dean of Pharmacy Education and Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Dr. Paul Peprah on their recent co-authored publication, “A Review of Recent Efforts Directed Toward the Discovery of Small Molecule Modulators of KCNT1 Channels,” published in Future Medicinal Chemistry.

📖 Dr. White recently co-authored "Enhancing the Role of Community Pharmacists in Medication Safety: A Qualitative Study of Voices from the Frontline," published in the Pharmacy MDPI Open Access Journal. The article was selected as one of the journal's Editor's Choice Papers for 2025.

✨ She also co-developed and presented the workshop "Crafting Scholarly Commentaries in Outcomes Research" with Drs. Marc Fleming and Sam Peasah, sharing expertise with graduate and pharmacy students at UNT Health and the University of Houston.

Yesterday, colleagues from across the newly united College of Pharmacy and Health Professions came together for our Melting Us Together Ice Cream Mixer. It was an afternoon filled with laughter, connection, friendly competition, and plenty of ice cream.
The mixer provided a fun opportunity for faculty and staff to meet new colleagues, strengthen existing relationships, and celebrate coming together as one college community all while building new connections across departments.
🎉 Congratulations to our prize winners, and thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the event such a memorable success.
