No one hopes for a NICU stay.

But learning about the support available if the unexpected happens isn't about preparing for the worst.

It's about preparing to feel less alone.

NICU doulas don't replace your medical team.

They walk alongside families through an experience that can feel overwhelming, helping them process information, build confidence, and feel supported every step of the way.

At NEDS, we believe every family deserves compassionate, evidence-based support, whether your baby comes home right away or spends time in the NICU.

If you'd like to learn more about what NICU doula support looks like, we've written a blog that walks through exactly that.

🩵You can find it through the link in our bio.

There is so much focus on caring for a new baby.
And rightfully so.

But we believe something just as important often gets overlooked...
Who is caring for the people doing the caring?

Parents weren't meant to navigate pregnancy, postpartum, and newborn life alone.

Sometimes support looks like an overnight doula.
Sometimes it looks like someone answering your questions, helping you build confidence, folding a load of laundry, or simply reminding you that you're doing a great job.

Because when families feel supported...
they're able to show up for each other in ways they couldn't if they were carrying it all alone.

That's why we do what we do.

Because it's never just about caring for babies.
It's about caring for the WHOLE family.

🩵If you're looking for support during pregnancy or postpartum, we'd love to learn more about your family and how we can help.

One of the most rewarding parts of teaching postpartum doula training is watching people grow over the course of a single weekend.

Many students arrive excited, but also unsure.

They're wondering:
• what the work actually looks like
• whether they have enough experience
• whether they're ready

Then the conversations start.
The questions start.
The learning starts.

By the end of training, we often hear words like:
Confident.
Prepared.
Inspired.
Connected.

Our goal isn't simply to provide information.

It's to prepare people to support families with knowledge, compassion, practical skills, and confidence.

If you've been considering this path, we'd love to have you join us!

Upcoming Live Online Training:
🗓️July 11-12, 2026

Students receive lifetime access to a learning library of videos, resources, and ongoing updates.

Postpartum support is not always dramatic.
A lot of the time, it is very ordinary.

A shower.
A nap.
A load of laundry started.
Dinner made before the evening gets hard.

Someone else soothing the baby during the witching hours.

Someone bringing water during an overnight feed and then taking care of the burping, changing, swaddling, and settling afterward.

It is care that fits into the real rhythm of a family’s day.

☀️Morning support may help a parent start the day feeling a little more human.

🌙Evening support may help the house feel less chaotic when everyone is tired.

💤Overnight support may help parents get longer stretches of rest while still knowing their baby is cared for.

Most days, postpartum support looks a lot more like this than people expect.

🩵If you’re wondering what kind of support would actually help your family, reach out.
We can talk through what your days and nights are really looking like.

When we started New England Doula Support, the goal was never to win awards.

It was to help families feel supported.

Over the years, we've had the privilege of walking alongside parents through pregnancy, birth, postpartum recovery, feeding challenges, sleep struggles, confidence building, and all of the unexpected moments that come with welcoming a new baby.

We've watched:
• friendships form in support groups
• families find their footing
• parents realize they don't have to do this alone

Being named a Boston Parents Paper Family Favorite finalist is meaningful because it reflects the community we've built together.

To every family who has invited us into their homes, joined a support group, attended a class, referred a friend, shared a post, or trusted us during a vulnerable season of life:
Thank you 🫶

We're incredibly grateful to be part of this community.

If you'd like to support us in the final round of voting, we'd be honored!
🗓️Voting closes June 22.

One of the hardest parts of nap transitions is that they don't usually arrive with a clear announcement.

Most families experience a period where sleep starts feeling a little... off.

A nap becomes harder to achieve.
Bedtime gets pushed later.
Wake windows stretch.

A child who used to seem tired at a certain time suddenly isn't.
Then a few days later everything seems normal again.

We talk with families about this transition frequently because it can be difficult to know whether a child is ready for a schedule adjustment or simply having an off week.

One thing we notice during nap transitions is that parents often start describing the same changes over and over.

Bedtime is taking longer.
One nap is harder to achieve.
Wake windows are stretching.
A child who used to seem tired suddenly isn't.

None of those things by themselves automatically mean it's time to drop a nap.
But when those patterns keep showing up, that's usually when we start paying attention.

😅Are you currently navigating the transition from two naps to one?
We'd love to hear what changes you've been noticing.

We often find ourselves saying to families:
"It looks messy because it's new."

When parents start working on sleep skills, they're often looking for signs that it's working.

The challenge is that progress rarely shows up all at once.

A baby who needed constant support to fall asleep might suddenly tolerate being put down awake.

A nap that was always contact might start with 15 minutes in the bassinet.

A child who immediately cried for help might pause, look around, and try settling before calling for a parent.

Those moments can feel tiny when you're living them.

From our perspective, they're often the exact signs that a child is starting to put the pieces together.

The messy middle can feel frustrating because it's neither the old way nor the new way.

You're still helping.
Your child is still learning.
Some days go smoothly and some don't.

We see it all the time.

Families are in this weird in between place where they aren't doing things the old way anymore, but the new skills aren't fully there yet either.

That's usually the phase everyone wants to rush through.
But it's also where a lot of the learning happens.

Have you ever been in that "one step forward, one step back" phase with sleep?
We'd love to hear what that looked like for your family!

Over the years, we've noticed that the people who become incredible postpartum doulas don't always come from the backgrounds you'd expect.

Sometimes they're former healthcare workers.
Sometimes they're educators.
Sometimes they’re moms whose kids are grown.
Sometimes they're parents looking for meaningful work.

What they often have in common is that they notice people.

They see when someone is struggling before it's spoken out loud.
They know how to stay steady when things feel overwhelming.
They enjoy helping people build confidence.

They understand that support can look like listening, teaching, encouraging, folding laundry, holding a baby, making a meal, or simply being present.

If you've ever found yourself reading about doula work and thinking,
"That sounds like something I'd love to do," we'd love to have you join us!

Our next live online Postpartum Doula Training takes place July 11-12.
