Your skin isn’t just a reflection of time, it’s a reflection of signals.

We are learning more about how epigenetics determines how your genes express themselves. And when it comes to skin aging, those signals matter more than you think.

Sun exposure, stress, sleep, nutrition, gut microbiome and inflammation all “turn on” or “turn off” pathways that influence collagen breakdown, pigmentation, and repair.

That’s why two people with similar genetics can age completely differently.

The empowering part? Epigenetic changes are dynamic.

Daily habits, targeted skincare, and in-office treatments can help shift your skin toward repair, resilience, and longevity.

Genes are only half the story —it’s what we support with our daily habits that dictates how our skin behaves and looks in the long term.

Spring and Summer skincare should be simple, lightweight and prevention-forward. The focus is on protecting the skin backer, defending against UV damage and pigmentation and minimizing inflammation.

Swap heavier creams for lightweight, barrier supporting hydration. I love hydrobiome serum to help add lightweight moisture as well as barely there

Be diligent with SPF and reapply regularly. Apply a layer of sunscreen to your face/neck and chest every morning (I like uv clear) and reapply throughout the day. Don’t forget your lips. I often remove precancerous and early cancer lesions from the lips in patients with chronic sun exposure.

Swap makeup for tinted SPF formulations that also have skin promoting properties. My favorites are lipid shield, and hydro grip tint

Up the antioxidants - both topically and internally. They help neutralize UV induced oxidative stress. Apply a high quality antioxidant serum like intense defense in the morning after cleansing. Focus on eating antioxidant rich foods like berries, salmon, nuts, seeds and leafy greens. An oral antioxidant with polypodium leucotomas such as can be a wonderful add-on sun protection and great for those who are melasma prone

Stay mindful of heat exposure and inflammation triggers. Heat= inflammation and warm environments can trigger redness, melasma and acne. After sweaty workouts or pool time you can spritz sensitive or breakout prone areas with a hypochlorous spray like or thermal water.

6 months of .

What a milestone this feels like. What started as a vision has become something so much more- because of the people who have trusted, supported and believed in this space and our team from the very beginning.

To my patients: thank you for allowing me to care for you. Your trust and commitment is the reason I love my job and is the foundation for everything we do. What a special community to be a part of and serve.

To my AG team: you are the heart of this practice. Your dedication, kindness, teamwork and willingness to go above and beyond are what makes AG dermatology truly special. You silently come early, stay late, work through lunch and make our patients feel like family.

Building this practice has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. Every time a patient says “I was recommended to AG Dermatology” it is so personal and special. Six months in and I am more grateful than ever. To have the opportunity to do work that truly matters and help people I deeply care about with a team that I am so grateful for - is my dream come true. Your support means the world to me and our family.

AG dermatology - this is just the beginning.

The future of your skin is in your hands. The decisions and choices you make on a daily basis are what really matter when it comes to long term skin health.

The blueprint to having beautiful and healthy skin as you age isn’t overly complicated, but it does require these habits become a part of your every day life.

UV protection to reduce skin cancer risk is the single most important step you can make. Find a formulation you love and apply it every day, repeatedly. Wear sun protective clothing and broad rimmed hats when you’re outside. You won’t catch me on the sideline of a lacrosse game this summer without my hat lipid shield and UV active

Get your skin checked regularly by a dermatologist you trust, especially for any new or changing lesions. A screening exam is quick, easy and can potentially save your life or prevent you from invasive surgery down the road.

Avoid tanning booths like the cancer-causing devices they are. I know these are becoming popular again, but as someone who excises skin cancer on my patients multiple times daily, I can promise you this is a habit that will catch up with you eventually.

Don’t underestimate the power of lifestyle choice in the way your skin ages. It’s not fancy and it’s not a two hour morning routine. It’s about eating whole unprocessed foods rich in antioxidants, fiber and protein. It’s about prioritizing high quality sleep and always making time for resistance training.

The line between medical and cosmetic dermatology isn’t real.

Most people think of dermatology as two separate worlds: medical vs cosmetic.

The reality is, the best results and outcomes happen when you stop separating them and view skin conditions as comprehensive.

Treating acne isn’t just about clearing breakouts, it’s about preventing scars, improving texture, decreasing inflammation and restoring confidence.

Treating eczema isn’t just about resolving itchy patches, it’s about assessing microbiome imbalances, preventing skin infections and avoiding discoloration.

Treating redness isn’t just cosmetic, it’s addressing chronic inflammation, visible vessels and thickening of the skin.

Treating sun damage isn’t just about how your skin looks, it’s about preventing skin cancer, removing precancerous cells and preserving collagen.

Every cosmetic concern I see at AG Dermatology has a medical foundation, which should always be addressed as part of our comprehensive plan.

There is no such thing as a purely cosmetic or purely medical dermatologist. Dermatologists are skin experts, trained to not only improve how the skin looks but also how it functions.

“I’m too young for skin cancer.” “No one in my family has ever had skin problems.” “I never burn in the sun.”

I hear this all the time. Yet I’ve diagnosed three melanoma skin cancers in the last two weeks and numerous non-melanoma cancer. To make it worse, the majority of these cases were in otherwise healthy young adults.

This is a reminder that it doesn’t always look dramatic.
It doesn’t always happen after decades of sun exposure. And it doesn’t care how “healthy” your skin has always been or how long you can be outside before burning.

Sometimes it’s a small spot that doesn’t heal.
Sometimes it’s something that looks completely benign but it’s new and changing.

The common thread is that it’s often overlooked, because of age or lack of awareness.

Skin checks aren’t about fear. In fact they’re one of my favorite parts of my job. They’re about awareness, early detection, and having a relationship with someone who knows your skin over time and can intervene when needed to help diagnose and treat.

Gentle reminder to monitor your skin and keep an eye on your loved ones. Be aware of new or changing lesions.

Looking low maintenance is rarely accidental. In fact, it’s strategic, consistent and focused on prevention and staying one-step-ahead. Small intentional investments and consistent routines will always be preferable to dramatic corrections later on.

The “high maintenance” things I do that have the biggest payoff:

Prioritizing healthy skin (always) with an SPF I love and prescription skincare focused on correction and collagen production. My non-negotiables are .g.dermatology prescription Tretinoin cream and brightening compound (coming soon!) and lipid shield for SPF.

Collagen banking: starting before you “need” it is always the goal. For me, this means quarterly mirconeedling or energy based laser devices (I use our 1927 resurfacing device for this whenever pigment is also a concern). I also incorporate our monopolar RF Everesse device twice yearly to keep my jawline tight and lower face laxity more defined. Deciding what is high yield for you is a conversation between you and your dermatologist.

Strategic injectables: This should be undetectable. Balancing your features, not changing them. Find an injector you trust and one that matches your aesthetic goals and philosophy (for me that is ). Create a plan that maps out your goals and the timeline to accomplish them.

Lifestyle = skin quality. I will never stop saying that what you do daily is going to show up on your skin and most importantly the way you feel.

Tagging friends and colleagues for their “high maintenance” routines …

If you care about your skin, you should be lifting weights.

Not just for the aesthetics, but because it directly impacts how your skin ages. Strength training supports collagen and dermal density over time, regulates insulin and the hormones that drive acne/inflammation and preserves lean muscle. Not to mention, weight lifting has been proven to significantly help modify the stress response long term through endorphin release and lowering cortisol.

It is one of the most underrated “skin treatments” I recommend and one that I prioritize myself even as a busy mom. Workouts can be quick and effective. I love using the at home for weight training. I incorporate when I can make an in person barre class to switch things up.

Remember to shower off immediately post workouts if you can and if you aren’t able to then using a hypochlorous spray like or to breakout prone areas can help keep sweat related occlusion at bay
