🍩 I heard it’s National Donut Day!

I have always been very particular about my donuts - cake all the way! has had my heart for quite some time. 🤎

One of the craziest things is that I would go crazy for days like today - another reason to “celebrate” food like this. Now? I’m more excited about freeze-dried cherries before bed.

Don’t get me wrong, being metabolically flexible and enjoying a gluten-free Dorite donut, in Chicago, doesn’t make me sad but priorities change and so do my tastebuds. When my hormones became balanced, specifically my estrogen and my progesterone, I just don’t have sugary cravings anymore. And I’ve got to admit…it’s freeing.

Did you celebrate? Was it a cake donut? 🤪

One tiny tick bite.

That’s all it can take to develop Alpha-Gal Syndrome—a condition that can make your immune system react to red meat and other mammal-derived products.

And with tick populations increasing across many parts of the U.S., I’m seeing more and more conversations about Alpha-Gal than ever before.

While avoiding trigger foods is essential, many people don’t realize there are additional factors that can influence how reactive they feel:

✔️ Histamine response
✔️ Mast cell activity
✔️ Gut health
✔️ Inflammation
✔️ Genetic predispositions

As a functional medicine practitioner, I help clients look deeper than symptom management alone.

Want to learn how your genetics may influence inflammation, histamine clearance, and immune regulation?

Comment DOXA and I’ll send you information about the genetic testing I use with clients.

Have you or someone you know been diagnosed with Alpha-Gal Syndrome?

Want to know the fastest way to find the calories you swear you’re not eating?

If you’re serious about your health goals, your kitchen scale might be the most underrated tool in your house. Most people don’t realize they’re not struggling with willpower—they’re struggling with portion distortion.

A tablespoon of peanut butter becomes two.

A serving of nuts becomes a handful.

A sprinkle of cheese becomes... well, let’s not talk about it. 😅

That’s why I teach my clients to:
✔️ Use a food scale
✔️ Measure ingredients into small bowls first
✔️ Avoid reaching into the original container
✔️ Create the best finished product

Why, you ask?

Because once you start eating directly from the bag, jar, or package, you’re no longer making intentional choices—you’re guessing.

👉🏼Awareness creates consistency.
👉🏼Consistency creates results.

And no, you don’t have to weigh food forever. But if you’ve never measured it, how do you know what a serving actually looks like?

The goal isn’t obsession.
The goal is education.

What’s the food you ALWAYS underestimate when you measure it for the first time? 👇

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but 🙏🏼 protect your peace. Every ounce of energy you put into hate, negativity, or noise takes away from anything that can bring you joy, peace, or even growth.

Protecting your peace, means protecting your nervous system. We don’t typically see the health effects of these actions for 7-10 years, so we must make the right choices for our future and future health.

You’re worth it.

It’s cherry season! 🍒

I always recommend eating for the season, but if you are having trouble sleeping, look no further than a handful of some delicious cherries.

They naturally contain melatonin, so they help you get a good night’s rest. Cherries are also known for supporting:

• sleep quality
• exercise recovery
• inflammation balance
• oxidative stress.

There are also so many ways to consume them. Right now my two favorites are fresh and freeze-dried. When you consume fruits that are seasonal, they are at their peak when it comes to flavor and quality.

Save this for your next grocery trip 🍒

Oh Gwyneth…that Goop isn’t working here! Arugula being a substitute for dairy means we are not even on the same planet.

Don’t get me wrong…I LOVE arugula, but as a dairy substitute, she could have picked coconut yogurt or even silken tofu.

If you ever have cooking or health questions, I’ve got you! Give me a follow, if you haven’t already. I post lots of tips, tricks, and education around food, cooking, nutrition, and wellness. Let’s go! 🔥

School is out! Junior year is behind us, so let the summer shenanigans begin! What does that really mean?

Bring on that checklist. 🙌🏼 😂

Some say these topics are “controversial,” but maybe it’s just another episode of poor programming? Either way, let’s get into it!
